Chancellor Candidate Beverlee J. McClure, Ed.D. Beverlee J. McClure has served as president and CEO of the New Mexico Association of Commerce & Industry since July 2007. She is responsible for leading and directing the statewide chamber of commerce. McClure was responsible for creating the New Mexico Center for Economic Opportunity, which targets job growth and retention. She also led the effort to create a jobs agenda for the state and successfully lobbied for legislation necessary to support the agenda. McClure also served as the first New Mexico secretary of higher education for two years, where she was responsible for budget and policy development for higher education and the special schools in New Mexico. She also served as the president of Clovis (N.M.) Community College for five-plus years. McClure is the board chair for YES! Housing and treasurer of the New Mexico Community Capital Board. She serves on the New Mexico Early Childhood Development Partnership Advisory Council, the Rio Grande Water Fund Advisory Board, and the Unidos Council. She is a member of the New Mexico Women’s Forum and the New Mexico Amigos. McClure’s doctorate in education is from the University of Texas at Austin. She holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Texas A&M-Commerce (formerly East Texas State University).
