Featuring the Spirit of Angela-Kumasi Nankama Aswad
Kambeng African Dance and Drumming team, Legend
Productions hip-hop, modern and contemporary dance
ensemble, discussion of the abolitionist movement in Missouri
and the story of Elijah Lovejoy presented by Barnes Bradshaw
from the Missouri History Museum, musical performances by
Florissant Valley students, free soul food and giveaways.

Presentation by Dr. Priscilla Dowden-White
Dr. Priscilla Dowden-White will discuss her research
and new book, “Groping Toward Democracy: African
American Social Welfare Reform in St. Louis, 19101949” (University of Missouri Press, 2010).
Dr. Dowden-White’s research reveals the history of
African-American community activism and institution
building in St. Louis during the first half of the
twentieth century.
