Student Success Team Meeting Minutes from November 2, 2010 The meeting began with Teresa thanking everyone for all the work they did to make Professional Development day a success. The team members not only welcomed the guest speakers from other ATD schools at a dinner on Monday Oct 18th, but they also helped to drive the speakers from place to place, they introduced the speakers at each of the sessions, they presented relevant STLCC data to compliment the data from the presenter’s college, and they collected feedback at each session! AMAZING support! Teresa reported that the feedback had been compiled by a student worker at FV and was generally positive! Having speakers from other ATD schools tell their stories helped the STLCC faculty and staff understand more about the ATD process! Just the goal we had in mind! The four chairs of the campus based teams: Andrea Nichols – FP, Lisa Wilkinson – MC, Layla Goushey – WW and Susan Serns – FV, each described where their campus was in the process of creating campus based ATD teams. Kelli Burns let the group know that there would be updates and continuous improvement to the IRP ATD Site. At each of our meetings, she would tell us what changes have been recently made. Donna Dare told the group that we are ready for thinking about the WHY behind the data! Team members were asked to choose either Goal 2 – Gatekeepers, Goal 3 – C or better, or Goal 4 – Persistence and to move to the room assigned to each of these breakout sessions. In each group, a leader and a recorder/reporter was chosen. Each group was given a worksheet that helped to guide the discussion. Each worksheet had data related to the goal and asked the following questions: 1) From your perspective, WHY do you think our overall success rate for this goal is where it is? WHY do you think there is such an achievement gap for students of color? 2) What changes can be made that would have the greatest positive impact in meeting this goal? 3) What policies, procedures, existing practices stand in the way of making these positive impact changes? Each group was asked to be prepared to present their top two responses to each of the three questions. After 30 minutes or so, the groups returned and reported out. A compilation of their remarks for each goal can be found on the IRP site under ATD. The meeting ended with a reminder of the next meeting on November 10th on the Meramec campus in the Confluence room. Worksheets over goals 1 and 5 will be discussed. The final meeting will be on November 23rd on the Meramec campus in the Confluence room. The meetings for the spring semester will all be on Wednesdays from 3 – 5 pm.
