Student Success Team
Meeting Minutes from November 23, 2010
The Student Success Team held its seventh meeting on November 23, 2010, from 3:30-5:00 p.m. in the Confluence Room at the Meramec campus. Teresa began the meeting with a welcome and a thank you for the rich discussions the team has had over all the goals the last two meetings. The notes from those discussions have been emailed to everyone on the team.
She thanked Lisa, Layla, Susan and Andrea for chairing their campus ATD success team meetings. Their leadership is allowing the flow of information and ideas between the collegewide team and every STLCC employee via the campus based teams. The IRP staff was thanked for agreeing to send a representative to each of the campus based team meetings.
Next, the team participated in a five minute envisioning exercise. Each member was given a worksheet that said:
IT IS LATE SUMMER/EARLY FALL 2012 - Take a moment and picture NEW STLCC students going through the admissions/registration process as well as their first eight weeks of classes. WHAT IS DIFFERENT because of completing one year of the implementation of the selected Achieving the Dream strategies?
DREAM BIG!
Please take five minutes to write down as much of your vision as you can! Please be as specific as possible! (Your ideas will be collected. You do not have to put your name on this unless you want to!)
Several members of the team shared their visions. All of the worksheets were collected and will be compiled. This exercise not only provided valuable information – but also prepared us for discussing the work that must be done in the next few months to make those visions a reality!
We spent some time talking about our plans for next semester and what is next with ATD. The conversation was rich. It is clear we have our work cut out for us next semester because there is a lot to do in a short time. We are up for the challenge!
Kelli Burns noted all the new information that can be found on the IRP portal under ATD.
Then John Cosgrove and Larry McDoniel presented information that was particularly noteworthy from the 2009 CCSSE survey. The team was directed to the IRP portal to look at the entire survey.
Donna Dare reminded us of the STLCC college mission. In short – STLCC is an open access institution and that will not change. We need to embrace that mission as we engage in the process of choosing our ATD strategies/goals.
John shared the plans for our opening week meeting. It will be from 1:30 – 5 pm on Wednesday
January 12 th in the Multipurpose Room within the Student Center on the Florissant Valley campus. The college wide team as well as the campus based teams will be invited. Everyone will meet from 1:30 – 3. The collegewide team will stay and meet from 3:15 – 5pm. The
purpose of the meeting is to begin to hone in on the strategies/goals the college wants to pursue. Once the group has identified 5 or so strategies, then we will determine if there are any gaps in data needed to examine these strategies for viability.
Donna shared the ATD timetable for the spring semester.
Teresa shared the homework assignment as well as the meeting dates/times/locations for the first half of the spring semester.
