Online Brush Up is free. It is still part of a grant; therefore pre and post test scores are needed. Project uses My Foundation Lab (MFL). Researching if MFL can improve scores on math COMPASS. Math Refresher Course is for 10 weeks (access). Students are asked to put in 30 hours minimum in order to get retested for FREE within 2 year period. ACTION ITEM Update- Update? -Committee to update uses for Pritt Donation-(currently laptop initiative) ATD Coaches’ Recommendations: 1. Student Success Committee narrow their focus to 2 goals ONLY that will have maximum impact. 2. Provide resources and institutionalize those interventions, especially NSO, that are moving the needle of success. Can use Bernadine Fong’s comments to support institutionalizing NSO. 3. Place emphasis on improving student success, especially the success of Native Hawaiian students in all courses, gap still there and increasing, re-emphasized by VP UHCCs, John Morton at his recent campus visit. The UHCC strategic plan calls for actions to improve the success of NHs. Expectations for the next coaches’ visit: 1. Display data showing the trends for the effects of NSO, English’s new program, and math’s changes on student success 1 2. Report on the 3-5 year success rates of all students and NH students in terms of success, retention, persistence, and completion, accompanied with an analysis of what the remaining barriers are and how they are going to be addressed. Particular attention should be given to the other gatekeeper courses (aside from English and math). 3. Call together all staff who have attended at least 1 ATD DREAM (aka Strategy Institute) and see if they are interested in joining the Student Success Committee or help working on bringing about systemic change at Maui College. 2014 ATD Annual Reflection Narrative Principal Assessment Survey was due 4/10/14; results to be sent to campuses by 4/23/14 to be integrated and addressed in the ATD Annual Reflection Narrative. Ben & John & others to complete narrative by April 28. Kamu Chun to submit combined report, (that includes all CC’s reports) by 5/8/14. Academy of College Excellence (ACE) Peter and Suzette are aware of campuses desire to implement ACE. Suzette is trying to get in touch with CHRISTOPHER SHOCKEY, Managing Director of ACE. Systems Office is trying to get Diego Navarro to come to Hawai'i and they say he is willing to come out. Apparently many UHCC campuses want the training too and Systems office thinks bringing him out to train groups from campuses may be the most cost-effective way to do that. So... we need to hold off on any further discussion w/Kimie Sasaki until we hear back from Suzette. Kari and Kristine- wrote ATD RFP for professional development for developmental ENG and MATH faculty train the trainers - team that can train others on campus, focuses on integration of soft-skill instruction into developmental courses. RFP was denied, I think because of a possible system implementation vs. a campus by campus implementation. Suzette Robinson, UHCC Systems Office is putting together a small planning committee made up of reps from interested colleges--LeeCC, HawCC, KapCC, UhmauC. She asked John to join because he is someone who has been empowered to make decisions for their campus, is detailed oriented, and will take responsibility for all the campus-related activities. Need to educate campus on the approach at Academic Senate (?) when the systems office gives us the green light.
