Injury prevention measures such as taping, wrapping and athlete education. Injury treatments including ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation and therapeutic exercise implementation and supervision. Variable hours laboratory. Corequisite: PHED 30-50. Prerequisite Skills: None Expected Outcomes for the Students: Upon completion of the course the student should be able to: 1. Identify the components of a preseason medical screening. 2. Demonstrate basic injury prevention measures. 3. Use the common materials for taping applications. Course Content: 1. Preseason introduction to Athletic Training Room Policies and Procedures a. Preseason physicals b. Procedures prior to taping and treatments c. Rules of conduct while receiving treatments d. Injury reporting procedures e. Hours of operation 2. On-site first aid care and treatment during games 3. On-campus administration of treatments, including athlete injury prevention education Methods of Presentation: 1. One-on-one consultation 2. Group presentations Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress: 1. Typical Assignments a. Maintain records for various related information 1) Completed physical 2) Initial injury reports 3) Daily treatment recording 4) Insurance claim form 2. Methods of Evaluating Student Progress a.
