PE17 – Introduction to
Athletic Training
COURSE SYLLABUS
Objective: To introduce the student to the field of athletic training. The overall goal is
to give the student a basic understanding of injury prevention, recognition and
management and rehabilitation. We will also discuss the sports medicine team,
emergency procedures and job opportunities. Besides learning from lectures and
demonstrations, the student will be expected to participate in various lab activities that
relate to the subject matter.
Required Text: Arnheim, Daniel and Prentice, William. 2005. Essentials of Athletic
Injury Management, 6th Edition. McGraw – Hill Publishers. (ISBN 0-07-298536-4)
Evaluation Procedure:
15 Homework Assignments
3 Tests @ 200 points each
2 Quizzes @ 50 points each
Lab Hours (16 wks @ 20/wk)
Event Coverage (1 @ 50 points)
