Chabot College Fall 2005 Removed Fall 2006 Course Outline for Health 500 EMERGENCY MEDICAL TRAINING Catalog Description: Health 500 – Emergency Medical Training 0 Units Supplemental emergency medical training through supervised clinical experience and additional skills laboratory time. Students participate in ambulance and/or emergency department care and treatment of the emergently ill or injured. Corequisite: Health 81, Health 83, or equivalent. 010 hours laboratory. Prerequisite Skills: None Expected Outcomes for the Students: Upon completion of the course the student should be able to: 1. Conduct patient assessments to determine an appropriate treatment pathway. 2. Treat a variety of illnesses and injuries. Course Content: 1. Supervised hospital and pre-hospital emergency care and treatment as allowed in the students’ scope of practice a. Patient assessments b. Assessment of vital signs c. Oxygen administration d. Injury bandaging and splinting e. Hours of operation 2. Equipment and ambulance maintenance and cleaning 3. On-campus training reinforcing primary class education goals Methods of Presentation: 1.
