ADAPTED COMPUTER KEYBOARDING
Catalog Description:
100 - Adapted Computer Keyboarding
(May be repeated 3 times)
3 units
Introduction to the correct keyboarding techniques and familiarity with the entire computer keyboard,
including the number pad with emphasis on adaptive, one handed, and ergonomic keyboarding skills.
This course is designed for students with disabilities. 2 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory.

Prerequisite Skills:
None
Expected Outcomes for Students:
Upon completion of the course the student should be able to:

demonstrate use of the keyboard alphabetic characters by touch;
demonstrate keyboard numbers and symbols by touch;
perform basic computer parts, functions, and operations;
demonstrate correct posture and finger placement, individually designed for student’s
disability.

Adaptive numeric and symbol keyboarding skills
Function keys and basic computer operation
Correct posture and finger placement, unless student has to revise finger placement because
of hand disability

1. Hands-on alphabetic, figure, and symbol keys
2. Hands-on skill building exercises
3. Hands-on timed writing exercises

a. Blank keyboard memorization
b. Speed timing quizzes, starting with one-minute sentences
c. Timed written work with a speed of at least 10 to 15 words per minute, depending on
disability
