2. Course Discipline and Number: BT 110 (formerly BUS 114 which has been
successfully taught as an online course for 5 semesters)
3. Course Title: Microcomputer Keyboarding
4. Distance Education Method:

5. Describe in detail how this course will apply the same standards of course quality
as a traditional classroom course. (attach course outline and syllabus)
Students taking this microcomputer keyboarding class online will complete
exactly the same assignments as those students taking the class on
campus.
A course syllabus and weekly assignments will be available on Blackboard.
Students will use a keyboarding program containing 30 lessons, all of
which must be completed to receive credit for this class
The keyboarding software program being used provides an interactiave
demonstration showing the correct keyboarding technique and posture
which should be used while keyboarding the alphabetic keys by touch.
6. Describe how this course will include regular effective contact between the
instructor and students.
Students will have access to the instructor's email address and telephone
number both at home and at school. Students may opt to come into the lab
for assistance or to work on their assignments during open lab time. In
addition, students have access to weekly announcements and discussion
board available on their Blackboard accounts. Blackboard discussion
board as well as email will be used extensively for communication between
students and instructor.

7. Describe how standard methods of assessment will be adapted to the distance
education format.
Representative assessment tasks include one- and three-minute timed
writings showing progress made. In addition, students are required to
submit a short paper (not more than 3 pages) describing correct
keyboarding technique and why it plays an important role in keyboarding.
Students will upload their weekly assignments directly to the Glencoe
Document Processing Instructional Management site where instructor will
check individual assignments and record on Blackboard.
Students will check the Gradebook on Blackboard for their grades on
assignments. In addition, the instructor will email students with comments
regarding their assignments as they progress through the alphabetic and
numeric keyboard. If a students need additional help on a specific portion
of the keyboard (upper row, home row, bottom row), suggestions will be
made for improvement on an individualized basis.
