Curriculum Committee 3/5/13, Page 5 5. Update on progress of proposals • Theater is still sitting in the Division • Jon is working on the AA-T in music; it is still “pending” • Jane explained how division reps can check for “stuck” proposals • Authors must make changes in “My Proposals” and then open the “My Approvals” folder to submit. If this 2-step process is not followed, the proposal gets “stuck.” • Jon has given Jane letters supporting repeatability of some of the music courses as major prep. Based on discussions on the Curriculum Chairs listserve, Jane does not think the letters are adequate documentation; she thinks the information has to be in a published document. 5a. Families Jane distributed family lists from Music and Studio Arts. She is asking that they be updated by next meeting to included LPC equivalencies (See the Theater Arts list as an example). 6. Experimental ENTR proposal Tom Clark presented ENTR 99.01, Making the Pitch, 1 unit Entrepreneurship students are schooled in making an “elevator pitch,” a 3-5 minute presentation to “sell” a proposal. Recently, faculty held an informal contest, including judging and prizes, for students to practice this technique. Recently, a faculty member was approached by an outside philanthropist who offered to pay for a class on this technique, provided that it could be offered on a specific, very immediate, timeline (the class must start by March 7 and conclude by the end of the month). We will not be asking for apportionment for this class, and students will be told that credit will be delayed until the course has gone through all the approval processes. MSC (Klein/Victoria) to approve ENTR 99.01. 7. Colloquia Jane asked whether there is any new information about this item. If Steve Woodhams wants to reactivate English 19, the proposal needs to come in by next week. Dov suggested we look at the usefulness of colloquia. It seems to have gone astray from its original purpose. Colloquia need to come through the curriculum process. Also, new repeatability rules affect these offerings. Talking points for discussing colloquia with colleagues: • This is why it exists • This is why it can’t continue as is • How can we fix this so that it works? Kent added that in the past the process did not raise red flags; now it does. Curriculum Committee 3/5/13, Page 6 8. General Studies Matt Kritscher has volunteered to house the General Studies Program in PsychologyCounseling. 9. 10. kk 3/7/13 Good of the Order Jane noted that shortly we are going to be submitting the TMCs to the state. She would like permission to make necessary edits, such as removing courses for which she cannot find articulation information. Consensus was that Jane be empowered to make these kinds of edits. The meeting was adjourned at 3:25 PM. Next meeting: March 12, 2013. c:\documents\word\curric\2012-13\3-5-13.min.doc
