Funding Source: ☐ General ☐ Categorical ☐ Grant Grant name: % % % Justification: Why is this position necessary? This is to fill a vacant position previously vacated by the current Grant Developer/Writer. The position has been vacant for 3 years and will greatly increase the capacity of the Grant Development Office (GDO) to submit more proposals, support faculty staff and administrators with post-award technical assistance, improve communication with the campus about grant opportunities and grant project successes, and re-establish grant writing workshops. What educational programs or institutional purposes does this position support? How does the request relate specifically to your Program Review, the College’s Strategic Plan, and/or Accreditation Recommendations? Since the GDO is part of the President's Office, this position will support all areas across the college. As stated in the GDO Program Review, this position is critical to grant procurement process and will enable the Grants Director to improve the pre- and post- award systems and grants office infrastructure. Currently, the Grants Director is doing both jobs which prevents her from establishing a stronger grants infrastructure with clearer policies and procedures. Where will the individual work? To whom will the person report? Are there any special equipment/facilities needs to be considered? This person will work in the Grant Development Office and report to the Director of Grants. There is a cubicle space outside of her office. What is the consequence of not funding this position? Decreased productivity from the grants office with the office only pursuing opportunities that come to the college rather than proactive planning and pursuit of grant funding. Possible grants compliance issues from limited grants infrastructure and established procedures. What alternative approaches have been considered in meeting the programmatic demands of this request? The Grants Director has been doing both jobs and has been contracting with professional grant writers to write grant proposals for the past four years, even before the position was vacated. How will the campus community (students, staff, faculty, and community) be positively impacted by filling this position? Increased service and support from the grants office, increased professional development opportunities, smoother grant start-up and implementation and increased communication with the campus about grant opportunities, processes and procedures. What other personnel currently provide support to this program and these students? Professional grant writing consultants hired on a contractual basis Requested by: Yvonne Wu Craig Date: Area Manager Notes/Response: 11/6/15 Area Manager: Susan Sperling Date:
