Current ONLY full time position person has been working out of class for the past 3 years as a Broadcast Cablecasting Technician. The duties involved are much more than the attached Job Description has listed. The actual duties performed in addition to the ones described in the position listed, involves, (1) Assigning proper tasks to employees, (2) Approving their work for broadcast (3) Ensuring that TV Guides are kept up to date to be 100% accurate (4) Getting content for the channels that comply with FCC guidelines (5) Ensuring Channels stay in operation 24/7 (6) Deciding on what equipment to purchase to ensure that students and the community are always working with the latest state of the art equipment, (7) Maintaining Budgets (8) Creating Software programs for Inventory, What educational programs or institutional purposes does this position support? It specifically lets students experience and use the exact equipment the industry uses, and trains them in software that they need to know in order to get jobs right away. No other college can do this at this time. We can now even train them in Motion Graphics. The videos produced can also assist the disciplines on campus by providing them videos that rival Hollywood productions. Where will the individual work? To whom will the person report? Are there any special equipment/facilities needs to be considered? The Individual will work for the Television Studio and report to the Dean of AHSS. We have all the facilities and equipment here that excels almost every College in this State. What is the consequence of not funding this position? The consequences of not funding this position will result in overworking the current position holder in a underpaid position that involves management and other duties not mentioned in the position description for a Broadcasting Cablecasting Technician. Which does not cover the majority of duties required anyway. What alternative approaches have been considered in meeting the programmatic demands of this request? No other choices, there are no other positions or duties anyone else can perform here. The unique abilities here requires person with (1) Ability to Lead (2) Extensive knowledge of Television Production equipment and configurations that currently exist (3) Extensive Computer knowledge of Video based Servers, Routers, IP Based Cameras, Switchers that can do Augmented Reality, (4) All aspects of Video Editing, Camera techniques, using 1 camera film style to make a production look like there are multiple cameras in place (5) Knowledge of Digital Audio for both Field and in the studio. (6) Create Software to address anything that needs to be tracked, like budgets, requisitions, Inventory, that can How will the campus faculty, and be accessed on all community media, like(students, phones, staff, Computers andcommunity) tablets. be positively impacted by filling this position? Creating this position will allow the current position holder to be reclassified into a more appropriate position that truly reflects their duties. The existing position then can be re-filled by a second full time technician to assist in the non managerial side of the operations of the station. This will also open the door for a second position of a Marketing Producer to assist in the coordination and marketing of the studio so that we can get more productions that students can be involved in that will guarantee them jobs in the Industry upon graduation. They can also transfer with an extensive knowledge of how an actual production is done. SF state currently sends their Interns here. What other personnel currently provide support to this program and these students? Right now, there is ONE full time Staff Member who supports the entire program.
