Justification:
Why is this position necessary?
Currently there is only one full time employee here at the studio. That employee does everything from
running the station as a manager, engineering, computer maintenance for video servers, editing
videos, shooting events, recording in the studio etc... we have part time people but the workload is too
huge for a 24/7 TV station that not only serves the College, but the entire Community. This position will
help lift at least a portion of the burden by providing assistance in the operations of the station,
production of shows, rentals of the studio by outside clients, and marketing the studio to get more
people to come and rent the facilities.
What educational programs or institutional purposes does this position support? How does the request
relate specifically to your Program Review, the College’s Strategic Plan, and/or Accreditation Recommendations?
This position will support all Television and Radio Mass Communications Classes, Speech language
classes, programs can also be developed for Nursing, Automotive Technology, History etc.. the
potentials are unlimited. It specifically lets students experience and use the exact equipment the
industry uses, and trains them in software that they need to know in order to get jobs right away. No
other college can do this at this time. We can now even train them in Motion Graphics. The videos
produced can also assist the disciplines on campus by providing them videos that rival Hollywood
productions.
Where will the individual work? To whom will the person report? Are there any special equipment/facilities needs
to be considered?
The Individual will work for the Television Studio and report to the Dean of AHSS and be locally
supervised by the Director of Television. We have all the facilities and equipment here that excels
almost every College in this State.
What is the consequence of not funding this position?
The consequences of not funding this position will result in inadequate coverage for college needs like
not being able to let the students experience actual productions as much, due to the lack of personnel
and time, the college will not be able to have as many videos done for various needs. The PEG
funding that currently pays for all the operating costs of the TV studio can be in danger, if the number
of repeats on the channels exceed FCC rules. Content needs to be produced in order to keep the
PEG funds going. Right now, with only one full time employee, who has to work outside is regular
hours in order to keep the station running, we are barely making it.
What alternative approaches have been considered in meeting the programmatic demands of this request?
The only way the station is running right now is by hiring 5 professional specialists to do specialized
work that the current employee cannot do, like Motion Graphics for productions and station operations,
programming the various channels, marketing the studio to cities that can join the PEG to increase
funding of equipment for the studio, (cannot hire people under the PEG). Productions that require
more than one person. Marketing television programs and movies we create here to Netflex, Hulu, and
Amazon.com. etc...
How will the campus community (students, staff, faculty, and community) be positively impacted by filling this
position?
The, students, staff and faculty and the community can have the most state of the art TV studio that is
a fully functional Broadcast Studio and Film Production facility. So they can work and (1) Learn on the
EXACT equipment that the industry uses, and get a job in the industry faster, (2) Produce videos that
assist all the disciplines on the college to help the students learn faster, because Media is the way to a
students brain now with Cell phones, the Internet, etc.. We can do it all. No other college can do what
we are capable of doing now. We even now have the ability to do Augmented Realty, Virtual Sets that
are so real that nobody can tell if they are fake or not. Students can be trained to create these sets. So
What
personnel
provide
to this program and these students?
they other
can get
jobs atcurrently
Pixar, ILM,
and support
other places.
Right now, there is ONE full time Staff Member who supports the entire program, with 5 part time
Professional Specialists assisting with tasks that are impossible to do alone.
