Funding Source: ☐ General ☐ Categorical ☐ Grant Grant name: % % % Justification: Why is this position necessary? An accompanist is an "industry standard" position in music departments. This position all the choral conductor to properly rehearse the choir and accompanies students in their applied lesson, during their juries and in recitals/concerts. This is a position that Chabot College on had as well as Las Positas. This position is a must for our area as our choral program is growing and we are not able to serve the vocal students properly. This will be an area on concern and could cause us to not gain accreditation by NASM if not funded in this area or via a Professional Expert. What educational programs or institutional purposes does this position support? How does the request relate specifically to your Program Review, the College’s Strategic Plan, and/or Accreditation Recommendations? The music department, the theater program and community. We have our site accreditation visit from NASM and a report due to them them month prior. This is an area we are VERY concerned about and need to have a plan in place. Where will the individual work? To whom will the person report? Are there any special equipment/facilities needs to be considered? This person will work in the music department and assist the theater department with any musical productions. This person will report to the dean of AHSS with feedback from the music department coordinator. This person will need to be a professional accompanist with qualifying degrees or equivalent professional experience. What is the consequence of not funding this position? The choral program is not able to perform certain literature, students do not gain the knowledge and experience of playing with an accompanist and it is a position we need to have in place for NASM accreditation. What alternative approaches have been considered in meeting the programmatic demands of this request? We would need funds to hire a professional specialist as a stop gap (approx $15,000 for the year). How will the campus community (students, staff, faculty, and community) be positively impacted by filling this position? The students will gain the expected experience of performing with an accompanist in their applied study. The success rate in our MUSA course are very low compared to other areas in the department. This is one of the main reasons. What other personnel currently provide support to this program and these students? A professional specialist when funded. No funds have been awarded this year yet. We had $1000 the previous year which allow for 4 concerts only. We annually present over 30 concerts a year. Requested by: Timothy Harris Area Manager Notes/Response: Date: 10/26 Area Manager: Date:
