Centers for Academic Programs Abroad (CAPA)
CAPA was founded in 1972 as a non-profit organization to provide students
and faculty with quality overseas study programs. CAPA will coordinate all
the logistics of your program including payments, air transportation, group
travel, accommodations, study centers and insurance.

Academic Courses
DON SKILES received his BA and MA (with Honors) from San Francisco
State. He is a widely published writer; his collection of short stories, Miss
America and Other Stories, was nominated for the Hemingway Award.
He participated in the study tours of 1992 and 1998.

Round-trip air on a regularly scheduled major airline is included in the total
program fee. The exact schedule will be distributed to all participants at the
final orientation. Tickets will be distributed and seat assignments made upon
check-in at San Francisco International airport.

PROGRAM FEES
$4,439 (based upon a minimum of 15 participants)
In Kingston-Upon-Thames, just south of London, students will earn
transferable college credit from Chabot College. ISLS students will stay
in British homes at Kingston-Upon-Thames, Surrey, about half an hour
from central London. Participants will not only study but will experience
in daily life the history and culture of England.

INDEPENDENT TRAVEL: Use your free weekends to travel to Europe’s
great cities. CAPA’s local staff will assist you in choosing destinations and
transportation. Student favorites include Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona,
Dublin and the French Riviera.

Accommodations
Students will live with local families in their homes. All families are
carefully screened and selected by CAPA personnel overseas. The CAPA
Local Organizer will use the information that students provide on their
CAPA accommodation form to place students with local families. All
students will have their own room, a desk, and key to the house. Daily
breakfast and dinner are included.
The homestays will provide students with a place to call home where they
can receive phone calls and mail, watch television, do homework, and, in
most cases, do their laundry. In addition, students will have a link to the
local culture and customs, including events and services, organizations
and medical services.
Excursions and Activities
LONDON (half day): Get to know London on a half-day panoramic city
tour with a private motorcoach and a guide. The Blue Badge guide will
highlight cultural and historical sights like the Houses of Parliament,
Buckingham Palace and the West End. Although the tour will not include
a tour of the interior of these historical sites, there will be opportunities
to stop and take photos.
SALISBURY, STONEHENGE, AVEBURY (full day): In Salisbury, see the
original Magna Carta and the cathedral with its cloud-piercing spire.
Visit the mysterious monoliths in Stonehenge, and view the ancient
standing stones of Avebury. Includes coaching, guide in Salisbury,
lunch voucher, and entrances.
CANTERBURY (full day): Explore the cloisters and huge Norman cathedral,
the nearby Roman wall, 12th and 16th century timbered houses and quaint
shops along the main street. Coaching, entrance to the cathedral and lunch
voucher are included.
STRATFORD-ON-AVON (full day): In Stratford-Upon-Avon, visit
Shakespeare’s birthplace, Anne Hathaway’s thatched roofed cottage and
Mary Arden’s house, attend one evening theater performance.

• Chabot College – Las Positas Community College District tuition and fees
• Passport and visa fees
• Personal expenses
• Refundable housing security deposit of $150
• US airport/customs hall fees and departure taxes of $149 (due with final
payment on March 22; subject to change)
• Anything not specified as included in the program
PAYMENT SCHEDULE
$300 due with application March 2 ($250.00 of deposit is non-refundable)
$4,439 due March 22 (balance of $4,288 (4,439.-minus $300 deposit)
plus $149 US airport/customs hall fees and departure taxes)
LATE FEES
A late fee of $100 will be applied to all applications received within 70 days
of departure, March 22, and to all accounts with an outstanding balance 70
days prior to departure.
Applications received after the 70-day deadline will be accepted based on
availability provided that they are accompanied by payment in full plus the $100
late fee, a completed housing form and any additional increased costs for services
resulting from late enrollment. CAPA reserves the right to cancel without refund
any student who has not paid in full 70 days prior to departure.
FINANCIAL AID
Financial Aid may be available from the sponsoring college. Grants, loans,
and scholarships may be used to pay program fees.
Students who have been awarded financial aid are required to pay a minimum
of 30% of the program fee by the final payment deadline March 22 or a late fee
of $100 will be applied to the account. In addition, the completed CAPA Financial
Aid Disbursement Form must be included with that payment before the final
payment deadline. This form will be mailed to all participants upon submitting an
application to CAPA. Full payment of the remaining 70% of your program fees will
be due 30 days prior to departure May 1.
Apply on your campus immediately. You should allow up to eight weeks for
your financial aid request to be processed.
How to Register
Please enclose a check for $300 payable to CAPA with your completed and
signed CAPA application by March 2. This deposit will secure your place on
the program; $250 of this deposit is non-refundable.
