Introductions
Members introduced themselves. An undergraduate student representative has yet to be
selected.
Faculty Asst Chair/Secy
Brian Mackie will serve as assistant faculty chair and secretary for the 2010-11 academic
year.
Committee Orientation
The committee reviewed the contents of the Curriculum Handbook which includes the
tentative meeting schedule for the year, the mission and scope of duties of the committee,
guidelines for curricular revisions, and the assurance of learning process and projects for
2010-11. The Assessment Team meetings will be held on the Tuesdays College
Curriculum doesn’t meet, with representatives from each department attending. October
29 was announced as the catalog deadline.
BS in Business
Administration
A motion which was tabled last spring to require a minor or certificate as part of the BS
business administration major was discussed. A summary was given for new committee
members detailing background of the motion and what has taken place over the summer
relative to reviewing the major. After further committee discussion, the original motion
was withdrawn.
UNIV 199
The committee was asked by the Vice Provost’s Office to review a new course proposal,
UNIV 199, for non-duplication of UBUS 101. The committee was willing to give consent
as long as there is a change in title, recommending “Topics in Academic Success and
Campus Leadership.”
UG Catalog Editorial
Change
The committee approved the deletion of a sentence in the introductory portion of the
college section of the Undergraduate Catalog, referencing college participation in the minor
in environmental management systems. Since the college is involved in many minors and
certificates across campus, to list them all would be too numerous. (See page 1 of 1)
Career Compass
A new course proposal, UBUS 099, Career Compass, was introduced to the committee. As
part of a new initiative of the college, the course consists of four workshops required of all
freshman students to help them think strategically about selecting a business major and a
career based on information and evidence that suggests majors and careers in which they
will be satisfied and successful. Further discussion will continue at the next meeting.
Minor in International
Marketing
Marketing introduced a new Minor in International Marketing. G. Gordon, P. Magnusson,
and C. Stakal were in attendance to answer questions of the committee. Discussion will
continue at the next meeting.
Adjournment
The meeting adjourned at 3:15 p.m.
Minutes approved: September 14, 2010
