Minutes for Meeting of April 26, 2010
A scheduled meeting of ASCAP was held on Monday, April 26 at 3:00 p.m. in Holden Hall 129.
Committee members present were: Jim Clopton, Greg Gellene, Ram Iyer, Jerry Koch, Rich Rice,
Anthony Qualin, Philip Pope, and David Roach. Presenters were: Julian Perez (Latin American and
Iberian Studies), Roger Lichti (Physics), Saad Abi-Hamad (History), and Jeff Williams, Brett Houk, and
Arthur Durband (Sociology, Anthropology, & Social Work).
1. The committee recognized the proposed curriculum changes for the Latin American and Iberian
Studies program.
2. The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposals
from the Department of Physics:
• Change number and title for PHYS 1305 Engineering Physics Analysis I.
• Add ASTR 2401 Observational Astronomy.
3. The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposal
from the Department of History:
• Add HIST 5358 Islamic Reform and Revival.
4. The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposals
from the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, & Social Work:
• Add ANTH 3375 Topics in Latin American Archaeology.
• Add ANTH 5375 Topics in Latin American Archaeology.
• Change co-requisite and description for ANTH 2301 Introduction to Archaeology.
• Change title and description for ANTH 3300 Anthropology and Contemporary Life.
5. The committee voted to table the following proposals from the Department of Sociology,
Anthropology, & Social Work pending lab hour revisions:
• Change number and hours for ANTH 3410 Human Evolution.
• Change number and hours for ANTH 3411 Human Variation.
• Change number and hours for ANTH 5411 Human Evolution.
• Change number and hours for ANTH 5412 Human Variation.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of ASCAP will be held in September 2010. The schedule for Fall
2010 and Spring 2011 meetings will be distributed in August 2010.
