SMOV Status & Planning Meeting Notes 8/18/09 - Summary o o o o - Observatory Status o - The on-going SI calibrations are proceeding per plan and the analyses are revealing no major concerns, though there are a few minor ones. With the exception of two COS ERO visits to be repeated because of guidestar problems, all the ERO observations have now been completed. With a couple of minor exceptions, the remainder of WFC3 and STIS SMOV is expected to complete by the end of next week. However, a programmatic decision to emphasize high-priority, time-critical science in SMS 243-250 means that most of the rest of COS SMOV and all of NICMOS SMOV is deferred to mid-Sep. The NICMOS instrument was brought up to SAAOper state shortly after the meeting. Though the detectors are not yet in “Full” operate HST now has six science instruments (including FGS) in operate mode. All subsystems are nominal SI Status o o WFC3 Engineering • The D2 Lamp Test (11428) o At least one visit exhibited a delay in lamp turn-on ~ 21 min. Similar, shorter delays had been experienced on the ground o At least one visit was observed by Randy Kimble to turn on without apparent delay. o Scott Swain to investigate Science (SDeustua) • Synphot table updates have been generated on the basis of SMOV data o Estimate delivery to CDBS group next week • Excess “afterglow” seen in CSM test (11421) and first reported last week o Under investigation • Cross-SI Light Leak Test (11515) o Continuing analysis For details, see the attached WFC3_Science_ SMOV_18_08_09.ppt COS Engineering • New HVNom values loaded into the DCE last week o Ops Rqst 18684-1 • • - To load HVMax values into the DCE, need to cycle the HV o Scheduled to be done out of sms236 Also need to perform a DCE memory dump o For any evidence of past HV transients Science DSahnow • On-going analyses (all nominal, so far) o FUV focus (and refocus planning) o Target Acqs o NUV sensitivities • For details, see the attached COS_SMOV_update_18August2009.ppt o FGS/OTA Nominal o ACS o STIS o NICMOS/NCS NICMOS instrument scheduled to be brought up to SAAOper today • Note: Accomplished post-meeting at approximately 1615 UT. o Mounting Cup temperature = 77.2 K o HST now has 6 operating instruments (incl. FGS). o ERO ACS SMOV is complete. Science. CProffitt • Only the MAMA Image Analysis (11395) remains to be executed o Scheduled this week and next • On-going analyses o MAMA sensitivities - nominal o NUV darks- nominal o Echelle Mode throughputs E140H ~ 20% below expectations • Reason unknown • For details, see the attached SMOV_STIS_18aug2009.ppt COS EROs 11503 and 11508 • Both experience guidestar failures • Will be repeated early on SMS243 • That will complete the ERO data takes. P&S Status o o Calendar/SMS builds SMS236 is being built now • Finals mode processing SMS243 • “Hunting & gathering” (of visits) will begin this week. Replans SMS236 contains COS refocus SMS243 contains • • o - COS ERO repeats (see above ERO entry) COS FUV focus verification visits Note: A programmatic decision to emphasize high-priority science in SMS 243250 has been made. This means that most of the rest of COS SMOV and all of NICMOS SMOV will deferred to mid-Sep. (The small amounts of WFC3 and STIS SMOV that remain are planned to complete without delay.)
