Analysis: NUV Deuterium Lamp Flats
• NUV Flat Field Exposures
•
~18 hours accumulated on-orbit run time so far, at HIGH current
–
–
34 30-minute exposures plus 4 <5-minute exposures all at HIGH current
Most occur in groupings of 6-8 exposures
• 20-25% degradation of signal to date
• Some indication that degradation is made worse by isolated
exposures, but this must be examined more carefully
Wavelength Calibration Analysis
•
11485/11496/11487: FUV WCA/PSA Wavelength Ranges
•
G140L 1230 FP-POS=4 Segment B Zero-order on detector
•
– WCA wavelength ranges recorded on detector have been evaluated for all FUV
grating central wavelength settings; initial subset of PSA ranges evaluated
– Analysis of all segments determined that all central wavelength settings place
scientifically required wavelength ranges on detector
• Ops request NOT required to support full suite of external PSA
observations in 11487 visits 01, 73 on Friday; GSFC notified
– For SMOV purposes we will NOT change encoder positions for G140L 1230
– Recommendation for cycle 17 science will be made after further analysis of the
impacts of options
• presently the leading option is to restrict usage of SEGMENT B for FP-POS=4
11474: NUV External Wavecals (Visits 01-03 and 74)
– Evaluate PSA / WCA ranges in conjunction with 11470 internals after initial
encoder position update
– >60 central wavelength settings to be reviewed
– Initial analysis indicates all regions nominal; continuing evaluation to consider
possible detailed refinements
• If necessary, an ops request will be generated to support uplink of required
encoder position updates to support observations beginning at 216:19:09:11
(Tues afternoon).
• Required information would be available by Monday morning
Additional Recent Activity
• 11474: NUV External Wavecals (Visits 01) Data Overflow
– G285M 3057 exposure; B-T=80, exp time=120
– Target count rate higher than implied by 80-sec BUFFER-TIME
– Part of planned test of TIME-TAG operation at high (for TIME-TAG)
count rate
• Overflow data is lost
• No impact to instrument
• No impact to test or analysis
Upcoming Uplinks (Ops Requests)
• Day 215: Mon 3 August (not yet submitted)
– Ops request for possible OSM2 encoder position adjustments
• will be submitted on Monday morning, if necessary
• Required for use in program 11475 visits 04 on Tues afternoon:
216:19:09:11
Upcoming Uplinks (for genslew)
• Day 212: Fri 31 July (submitted)
– USE OFFSET 11487A for 11487 visit 1 (executes Fri morning)
– USE OFFSET 11487Z for 11487 visit 73 (executes Fri evening)
• 215 SMS:
– None planned due to implementation of SIAF update
– Some upcoming visits have contingency update opportunities
** ALL of the above USE OFFSETS will use same (V2,V3) offset **
