The pastor of St. Francis Xavier is Fr. Eric Knapp S.J. You may remember Eric from when he was a deacon here at the Parish or from his running the Boston Marathon in remarkable time. It was such a grace-filled experience seeing the faith-filled community that Eric has animated in his parish. Like St. Ignatius, St X’s draws people from all over Cincinnati and northern Kentucky. It was so clear to me that the Spirit is very much alive in Cincinnati and not just because of the “REDS” (that’s an allusion to Pentecost!). One of the highlights of my visit was Eric’s taking me to a MegaChurch service, a nondenominational Christian service that gathered at least 2000 people on a Saturday evening. Although the service was too “theatrical” for me (can you imagine!!!), I was, nevertheless, moved by the power of the Spirit to animate people’s minds and hearts with a love for Jesus Christ and a desire to live the Gospel as authentically as possible. As a Catholic, what I found lacking was the intimacy with Christ and the community that comes through the Eucharist. It reminded me of the rich tradition we share as we gather weekly to “eat and drink” in memory of Jesus. I share my weekend journey with you to point out that the Spirit of God is always moving, creating new experiences of God’s love and mercy. Like those first disciples who gathered in the Upper Room at Pentecost, we too can be moved by the Spirit to do wonderful things for God and for our world in the name of Jesus Christ. At the end of this Easter Season, let me sing an Alleluia of gratitude for your life in the Spirit and for the love that shows itself so powerfully in your generosity and commitment to the Good News! Happy Easter! Happy Pentecost! Alleluia! RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS FAMILY FAITH FORMATION NEWS Children’s Liturgy of the Word: During the summer months, Family Mass goes on hiatus. From June 24th until Labor Day, we will be dismissing the children from the 10am liturgy to go downstairs for their own Liturgy of the Word. Children will have the readings proclaimed from the children’s lectionary, will have a short reflection or teaching session, and will do their own prayers of the faithful. WE ARE IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS TO HELP US WITH THIS MINISTRY. Volunteers are needed to proclaim the readings, to offer reflections, and to provide music. If you are interested in helping, please email Amy at chapmaab@bc.edu. A reminder that Family Faith Formation classes continue this year until June 17. Registration for Family Faith Formation for the 2007 – 2008 academic year will begin on June 3rd after the 10am liturgies. You will also have the option this year of registering electronically. A registration form will be sent via email; if you prefer, you can return that form electronically to Amy or through the mail to the parish address.
