SUNDAY MORNING ADULT FAITH FORUM Each Sunday, following the 10:00 am Liturgies, there

issues of being a faithful Catholic in the contemporary Church. Why not join us for coffee and doughnuts
after Mass (refreshments).
"WE REMEMBER THEM": COPING WITH LOSS DURING THE HOLIDAYS--The loss of a loved
one is difficult any time of the year, but the holidays can be especially challenging for those struggling
with bereavement. If grief has changed your experience and expectations for the holidays; if the peace
and joy of the season seem far removed, you are not alone. Please join us for prayer and
companionship in the Friary Room on Sunday afternoon, November 25th, from 2:30-5 p.m. Members
of the parish staff and community will facilitate a discussion on remembering our beloved deceased and
offer personal experiences in coping with feelings of loss. Light refreshments will be served, and the
program will conclude with a prayer service. You are invited to bring a photo or memento of your loved
one. For more information or to register for this program, please call the parish office at 617-552-6102.

Beacon Street. Many parishioners have enjoyed

Dear Parishioners,
If you look at the list of Staff members at the back of the bulletin, you will have noticed
the initials CAP after the names of some of the individuals listed. These are members of
our Child Abuse Prevention team. Presently, the team consists of parishioners with
legal background, Jane Devlin and Marc Gervais, Amy Chapman, our Director of Faith
Formation and JA Loftus, Associate Pastor and Clinical Psychologist. The mandate of
this team is to do all that it can to make sure that St. Ignatius parish is a “Safe
Environment” for the children and youth of our parish.
Since the abuse scandal came to light, and the subsequent response of the American
Bishops, the efforts to create a safe environment have become part of the pastoral
landscape of every parish. What this means is that all clergy, staff and volunteers who
work with children and youth, elderly or the disabled or who have the potential for
unmonitored access to them are required to go through a CORI check (Criminal Offense
Records Investigation) and attend a training session, “Protecting God’s Children.”
Those persons who have direct ministry with children and youth are also required to
sign a statement of ministerial conduct.
As it is, we ask much from our community, especially those who volunteer their time
and talents in service to the parish. We value their generosity and commitment to the
spiritual life of the parish. We also want to make sure that we are committed to do all
we can to create a safe environment for our children and youth who are the future of
our church. That is why we are making these efforts and asking our clergy, staff and
volunteers to learn together what it takes to create this safe environment.
During the year we will have scheduled sessions of “Protecting God’s Children” that
are not only for our volunteers but for all parishioners who would like to be more
cognizant of the steps that the parish and Archdiocese are taking in this area. The first
of these sessions is Saturday November 17th at 9:30 am. The session will last until noon.
As always, I am grateful for your support of all that we do in service to our community
at St. Ignatius.
Sincerely
Rev. Robert VerEecke, S.J.
Pastor
