INCOME MAINTENANCE CASEWORKER II
Adult Medicaid Unit
The primary purpose of this position is to determine Medicaid eligibility by initial intake and reviewing of ongoing cases.
The process requires gathering and verifying required information, interviewing prospective public assistance applicants,
providing program information, and determining eligibility based on Federal and State guidelines. This position requires
worker to know basic laws, policies, procedures and regulations and to apply them accurately.
This position is responsible for the following programs:
 Medical Assistance and Cost of Care for Long Term Care cases for Disabled and Aged (MA/LTC)
 Domiciliary Special Assistance to Disabled under 65 and aged 65 years and over (SAD & SAA, SA In-Home)
 Medicaid for Aged, Blind, and Disabled (MAABD)
 Medicare Qualified Beneficiaries (MQB, MQB-Q, MQB-B, MQB-E)
 Medical Assistance for Community Alternative Program (CAP)
 Carolina ACCESS Managed Care Program
 Family Planning Waiver – Limited benefits for males 19-60 years of age and females 19-55 years old (MAF-D)
The worker in this position may interview clients seeking assistance with nursing home and domiciliary care as well as
client seeking medical assistance in private living arrangement. The worker is responsible for interviewing clients for
assessment of all Medicaid programs to obtain required information to complete the initial application process. The
worker is responsible for explaining the rules of the programs. Worker must make thorough inquiry of
applicant/recipient’s reserve and income.
This job involves constant contact with the public. This job consists of interviewing and taking applications for public
assistance programs offered by the Department of Social Services. The person in this position maintains and manages an
ongoing caseload, does reviews monthly, and is responsible for making all necessary changes to the ongoing cases. The
Income Maintenance Caseworker II is required to work very closely with all other agencies, federal, state and local as
necessary to complete required assignments. Home visits are made for cases that should be investigated more thoroughly
of in situation where client is unable to come to the office. The Income Maintenance Caseworker II is required at the time
of the client’s interview to ask appropriate questions to determine the client’s eligibility for public assistance and to work
very closely with any other unit of the agency.
RECRUITMENT STANDARDS
Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities
 Considerable knowledge of the program/areas of assignment.
 General knowledge of all agency and community programs and services which could affect the client/applicant.
 Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills.
 Ability to read, analyze, and interpret rules, regulations and procedures.
 Ability to communicate with clients/applicants, the public at large, and public officials to obtain data, and to
explain and interpret rules, regulations and procedures.
 Ability to instruct and to evaluate the work of lower level employees.
 Ability to perform caseworker functions within structured time frames.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements

One year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; or an equivalent combination of training and
experience.
