Protecting God’s Children Program The Archdiocese of Boston requires all church volunteers (in whatever capacity) to complete a training program in child abuse prevention. If you are a new volunteer in any St. Ignatius ministry, you must be able to verify your attendance at a Protecting God’s Children (PGC) program. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the appropriate supervisor of your ministry. St. Ignatius will sponsor its first program on Sunday, September 19, 2010 from 2 to 4 PM in the Choir/Media room of the lower church. As part of this process, all will also be required to complete a new CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) form for the Archdiocese. These are required annually. Please inform the St. Ignatius Office (Betty McLaughlin @ 617-552-6102 or ignatius@bc.edu) if you plan on attending. Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a safe and secure atmosphere for all children at St. Ignatius parish. CATECHISTS - We have begun looking for catechists for the upcoming 2010-2011 academic year. We have been very fortunate to always have very reliable, dedicated catechists. As the summer begins to draw to a close, we are hoping to fill all of our vacancies. Our catechetical sessions will begin in September and continue through May, and catechists are provided with curricula and materials. If you are interested, please contact Amy Chapman at chapmaab@bc.edu or 617.552.6103. At this point, we still need catechists for the following grades: Pre-school (need 2 catechists) - Grade 2 (need 4 catechists) Grade 3 (need 4 catechists) - Grade 4 (need 1 catechist) - Middle School (need 2-3 catechists) ST. IGNATIUS TRANSITIONS GROUP Weekly meetings will resume on Wednesday, September 8th. The Transitions Group is for parishioners in career transition and seeking to network, gain access to helpful resources or simply get support and fellowship in a non-threatening and non-judgmental environment. For more information about the Group, please visit our web site http://www.bc.edu/bc_org/prs/stign/transitions.html ST. COLUMBKILLE PARTNERSHIP SCHOOL is still accepting registrations for the 2010- 2011 school year. A limited number of openings are available in grades Pre-K through 8. The St. Columbkille Partnership School is an exciting learning environment where students have access to the newest curriculum materials and technology. For more information, call 617-254-3110. MUSIC MINISTRY Liturgy at St. Ignatius is enriched by a variety of musical ensembles. Each group serves primarily to enhance our liturgies and to support our assembly singing. Though we offer a wide range of musical styles and different levels of time commitment, all our ensembles prepare with a desire to praise with all of hearts , minds , voices, and instruments, for the GREATER GLORY OF GOD. The new season of ensemble participation and ministry will begin next month. Please consult the parish website for listings of groups and details of each, or check the parish bulletin boards for information. If you have any questions, or would like to express interest in joining us, during August, contact Timothy Zimmerman, Associate Director of Music/Organist at zimmerta@bc.edu or phone him at 617.552.6114. CONCERT OF WEDDING MUSIC The annual evening of wedding music will be held MONDAY 4 OCTOBER at 7:30 PM in the Upper Church. Engaged couples will find this time to be helpful in planning music for their big day. Questions may be addressed to Timothy Zimmerman at zimmerta@bc.edu or 617.552.6114 OUTREACH MINISTRIES O N -G O IN G D O N A T IO N S R E M IN D E R : B o th S h a ttu c k S h e lte r a n d th e F a m ily V a n a re a lw a y s g ra te fu l fo r d o n a tio n s o f tra v e l-siz e sh a m p o o s a n d lo tio n s (e v e n th e o n e s y o u g e t a t h o te ls) a n d to o th p a ste a n d to o th b ru sh e s. The Next Bulletin will be on September 12th F A IT H F O R M A T IO N R E G IS T R A T IO N FOR 2010 – 2011 If you plan to register your child (children) for Faith Formation, please contact Amy Chapman, Faith Formation Director for registration materials. Classes begin on Sunday, September 26th. As usual, the earlier you register, the easier it is for our office. Because we are grateful when you register early, we will ask for a “pre-registration” donation of $200 per family. After September 1, our registration fee will be $250 per family. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO REGISTER: Catechetical Session Information: Pre-School Sundays, 8:45 – 9:45am With the success of this year’s pre-school class during the 8:45 – 9:45am time slot, we’re going to continue that for next year. We believe that, even at 3 years old, students enrolled in “Faith Formation” should expect and receive catechesis, not a nursery program (which can be valuable, as well). We want all members of our community to be welcome at liturgy. Kindergarten & Grade 1 Sundays, 8:45 – 9:45am Our kindergarten and grade 1 program will be the same as this past year. Approximately every 4-6 weeks, we will do a whole community catechesis event with our students, their parents, and catechists, along with students, parents, and catechists in our Grade 1 classes, which will set an upcoming theme in both classes. In between those sessions, students will meet as graded groups with two catechists. Grade 2 Sundays 8:45-9:45am Our Grade 2 program is the year in which preparation for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist occur. Preparation for these sacraments, which requires a separate registration form, occurs during two “retreats”, one for each sacrament. There will be a parent meeting in the fall to discuss additional preparation requirements. Grades 3-5 Sundays 8:45 – 9:45am Our program for these grades will continue to follow our textbook series, Blest Are We. Arts-Based Program Alternating Sundays, 11:00-12:30 Our Arts-Based Program continues to be a wonderful and popular choice for some students and families. This year, due to last year’s very high enrollment, we will need to limit the amount of people who will be allowed to register for the class to 60 children. Prior to registering for this class, parents are required to meet individually with Amy Chapman to discuss their commitment to regular attendance on the part of each student, a commitment of regular classroom assistance on the part of each parent as well as a commitment to attending the annual fall retreat. 6th-8th Grades Alternating Sundays, 11:15 – 12:30 Our Middle School Program seeks to give students an opportunity to engage in discussion about their spirituality while also providing service and liturgical experiences that are aimed at this age group. Because a critical part of the catechesis is the “out of class” component, students will be expected to participate in service and liturgical events (which will be offered approximately once per month).
