FEAST FOR EARS AND EYES – ANNIVERSARY CONCERT
You are invited to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the re- building of the Casavant organ. We also
celebrate and remember all those who donated funds to make this possible. PLAN TO ATTEND A
RECITAL OF VARIED WORKS PLAYED BY TIMOTHY ZIMMERMAN ON SUNDAY,
NOVENBER 24th AT 8 PM. A reception will follow, in the Friary Room. Admission is free, and a freewill offering will be received. End our celebration of the FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING, and start
THANKSGIVING with us .
THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CONSTITUTION ON THE SACRED LITURGY
This December marks the 50th anniversary of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy that was promulgated by the
Bishops of the Second Vatican Council. As so many of us know, this document dramatically changed the way in
which we celebrate the Mass. Changes in language, using the vernacular, orientation of the priest towards the
people, as well as the inclusion of lay ministers in the celebration are only some of the ways in which we as a
Church began to experience the Paschal Mystery in new yet very ancient ways. In the coming weeks and months,
we will be including sections of the Constitution in the bulletin to give you an opportunity to reflect on this great
Mystery of Faith. We will also have a discussion of the document on Sunday December 1st at 11:00 in the Choir/
Media room. All are invited.
“. . . by baptism, all are plunged into the paschal mystery of Christ: they die with him, are buried with him, and rise
with him”
(Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, 6)
The Paschal Mystery, the mystery of Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection, is the heart of liturgical
celebrations. The faithful participate in this mystery by the power of the Spirit, who allows them to be united with
Christ himself. The heart of this mystery is Christ’s saving (which means “healing” in Latin) presence, which heals
fragmented lives. The Second Vatican Council reminds us that our union with Christ and the Church occurred in
the waters of Baptism. This union with Christ is why, as St. Augustine once said, we are called Christian, because
our identity has changed. Baptism is thus an entrance into union or communion with Christ and his Church (this is
one reason why baptismal fonts are often near the entrance of the worship space). Baptism is nourished and
strengthened in the celebration of the Eucharist, especially on the Lord’s Day, Sunday.

“WE REMEMBER THEM": COPING WITH LOSS DURING THE HOLIDAYS
The loss of a loved one is difficult any time of the year, but the holidays can be
especially challenging for those struggling with bereavement. If grief has changed your
experience and expectations for the holidays, if the peace and joy of the season seem far
removed, you are not alone. Please join us and others of the parish family who have lost
loved ones for a Service of Remembrance on Sunday afternoon, November 24th from
3:00-5:30 p.m . We will first gather in the Friary Room for companionship and the program will conclude
with a prayer service in the Lannon Chapel. Light refreshments will be served. You are invited to bring a
photo or memento of your loved one. For more information or to register for this program, please call
the Parish Office at 617-552-6102.

La Página Hispana
Queridos Parroquianos,

BOOK DISCUSSION
On November 24th, there will be a discussion of Awakening the Brain: The Neuropsychology of Grace by Charlotte
Tomaino at 11:15 in the parish offices. According to one reviewer, "Dr. Tomaino’s brilliant work as a neuroscientist
and devoted spiritual practioner has birthed an inspiring, practical book that offers readers all that they would
want to know about the undeniable partnership between the human brain and inner spirit." Please join us on
November 24th to discuss this interesting book; all are welcome to participate.

VIOLET
Advent (from the Latin word adventus, which means “arrival” or
coming”) is the first season of the liturgical year. It begins four
Sundays before Christmas, the Sunday falling on or nearest to
November 30th, and ends on Christmas Eve. The color is not the
penitential purple of Lent but the violet purple of sunrise. On one
Sunday this season, Gaudete Sunday, the color becomes rose.

POPE FRANCIS: WHY HE LEADS THE WAY HE LEADS
Chris Lowney, author of “Heroic Leadership: Best Practices from a 450-Year-Old Company That Changed the
World’ has written a new book on the Jesuit pope and his leadership style. Fr. JA highly recommends Chris' new
book written especially for people in leadership and management positions. He recommends that Fr Bob read it :-)
From Fr. JA : A stunningly beautiful description of Ignatian spirituality as it actually can work in any leadership
role. Remarkable praise for this book coming not so much from religious types but from the CEO’s of America’s
largest companies. A great read and helpful too!
ADVENT MOVIE NIGHT
To kick of our Advent journey, the Spiritual Life Commission will present a showing of the 2010
film "Of Gods and Men," winner of the Grand Prize of the Cannes Film Festival, 2010, and
nominated for Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award, 2011. The film explores the meaning
and calling of Christmas in a world marked by sin and division, through the eyes of eight Trappist monks in
Algeria. We will begin with a bite to eat in the Friary room at 5:30 PM on Saturday, November 30, and then proceed
to watch the film, ending with dessert and a shared reflection and discussion. Please RSVP if possible to have a
food estimate. Email Pepe Ruiz, SJ <pepe@jesuits.net>
JAMAICA RETURN!
Once again, the parish is planning an immersion trip to Kingston, Jamaica to participate in the life of our sister
parish, St. Anne's and St. Anne’s primary school. The proposed dates for the trip this year are January 18th-26th. If
you are interested in finding out more about the trip, please contact Fr. Bob.
WANT MORE INSIGHT INTO THE READINGS YOU HEAR AT MASS?
Join us for PASTA & PRAYER, a prayerful conversation with friends over dinner to discuss the
Sunday scriptures. Feed your body, mind and soul!!
The next session, Becoming Involved, discussing the Christmas season readings, will take place on
Thursday, November 21, 2013 in the Dining Room at the Parish Office from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This year, we will
also explore the impact of the adoption of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy on our faith lives and how it
shapes our understanding of the Scriptures.
Prior registration required: Call Catherine at 617-782-5812 or e-mail to cfdesq@hotmail.com, to reserve a place.
