About the Program
USA's Photography Certificate Program teaches the essentials needed to develop or
enhance photographic skills. The program provides training in several areas of
photography including: camera use, flash techniques, portrait, wedding, studio lighting,
software usage, and business skills.
Program Requirements
Students working toward the Certificate in Photography
must take:
• Camera Light, Film & Digital I
• Camera Light, Film & Digital II: Beyond the Basics
• Studio Lighting and Portrait Photography
• Adobe Photoshop/Photoshop Elements or Lightroom
or Portrait Photoshop Retouching
In addition, they must complete any combination of elective, photography courses
equaling 42 hours, and prepare a portfolio or exhibit of their work. The portfolio or
exhibit should demonstrate the candidate's technical proficiency and visual creativity.
Arrangements must be made with the Center for Continuing Education for an exhibit.
The final project must satisfy an instructor review before the certificate is awarded.
Photography classes are routinely added to offerings. Students should always review the
latest catalog for classes available each term.
To earn a certificate, a student must successfully complete required courses, any
combination of electives equaling a minimum of 42 hours, portfolio review, and a $40
non-refundable application fee. Course work must be completed within three years.
Admission to the University is not required for this program.
Attendance Policy: Students cannot have more than 2 absences for classes with five or
more sessions, more than 1 absence with four sessions, and no absences for three sessions
or less.
PLEASE NOTE: Students working on two or more certificate programs may not apply the
same courses to more than one program. Substitutions must be made in order to meet minimum
classroom contact hours. Students are under the certificate curriculum in effect at the time
of their application into the program until they finish the program. Course changes made
after the application DO NOT affect your curriculum requirements.
