Position Responsibilities
The staff attorney provides legal services of all types to the
Onslow County Department of Social Services. This position is
primarily responsible for provision of legal services to the child
and adult welfare social work units as assigned by the senior
staff attorney. The position also acts in an advisory capacity to
agency administration on personnel and liability matters.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Specific knowledge of juvenile, adult protection,
guardianship, and child support law;
General knowledge of case, statutory and common
law;
General knowledge of judicial and quasi-judicial
procedures.
Ability to:
Perform legal research, to analyze facts, evidence, and
legal instruments;
Understand and interpret constitutional provision,
statutes, administrative regulations, and precedents;
Express conclusions and arguments clearly and
logically in oral and written form;
Maintain effective working relationships with the
public and other persons contacted in course of work.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from an accredited law school.
Special Requirements
Must have an active license to practice law in the State of North
Carolina. A copy of law license must be attached to application
when submitted. Must have a valid driver’s license and be in
compliance with the Onslow County’s insurance regulations.
Must have access to a telephone and a vehicle.
