The primary purpose of this position is to comply with and fulfill the statutory requirements to receive and investigate all reports of actual or suspected child abuse, neglect, exploitation, and dependency. This must be accomplished in accordance with legal mandates and social work values. This position supervises a Child Protective Services Unit which may consist of one clerical and six social workers who implement the provision of child protective services including intake and investigation of protective services reports. Major duties include coordinating and providing training to staff, serving as a communications link between administration and staff, and ensuring that all services are offered in accordance with agency and state policies and statutory requirements. Other management functions include short and long range planning, organizing and directing, establishing work standards, interviewing and selecting subordinate personnel, counseling and discipline, and review of work and evaluation of staff performance.
Methods and principles of casework supervision and training
Social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems.
Behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment
Governmental and private organizations and community resources
The laws, regulations and policies which govern social work programs

Supervise, train or orient lower-level social workers, students, interns or other staff
Express ideas clearly and concisely
Plan and execute work effectively
Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work and three years of social work or counseling experience; or a master’s degree in a counseling field and three years of social work or counseling experience; or four-year degree in a human services field or related curriculum and four years of social work or counseling experience; or graduation from a four year college or university and five years of experience in rehabilitation counseling or pastoral counseling; or a related human services field providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work, or community organization; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
