This publication lists positions for which applications are currently being accepted. Applications may be obtained at the Human
Resources Office or the local Employment Security Commission. Applications are accepted Monday through Friday from 8:00
am to 5:00 pm (except holidays). Applications received after the closing date will NOT be accepted. As a condition of
employment, individuals hired by the County are required to present proof of identity and legal eligibility to work in the United
States before they can begin work. Male applicants between the ages of 18 and 26 are required by State Law to certify that

CHILD SUPPORT SUPERVISOR I

Job Description
The primary function of this position is to provide supervision and training for a unit of Child Support
Agents. Other primary responsibilities are to review and monitor the caseloads of Child Support
Agents supervised for compliance with program policies and regulations. Employee assists the
division supervisor in interpreting and implementing policies and procedures and in establishing
program goals and objectives. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Education & Experience
Graduation from high school plus four and one half years of experience in investigative, judiciary,
eligibility, attorney's office or related work which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed
to perform the work, including one year of *IV-D experience; or a four year degree plus one and one
half years of experience in the IV-D program; or Associate Degree in Business Administration,
Human Resources, Law Enforcement or closely-related degree and two and one half years of
experience in investigative, judiciary, eligibility, attorney's office or related work, including one year
of *IV-D experience. * IV-D experience is at the Child Support Agent I level or higher.
Note: Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the Child Support Enforcement Program and applicable legal procedures;
considerable ability to interview clients, absent parents and related sources, and to investigate cases;
considerable ability to organize, analyze, and summarize case information; basic math skills; ability
to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and absent parents, location
resources, offices of the Clerk of Court, Magistrates, District Attorney, Sheriff, other court officials
and private attorneys; ability to orient, train, and review work of Agents. Must have valid driver’s
license with good driving record. This position requires the ability to produce high quality results
under pressure of tight time frames and deadlines. Bilingual in English and Spanish is a desired
qualification.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically perform the basic life support functions of stooping, reaching, walking,
pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform sedentary work which includes exerting up to 10 pounds of force
occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull,
or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Must have the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, perform accounting functions,
operate typewriter or computer terminal, do extensive reading and determine the accuracy,
neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.

Resources Office, PO Box 1210, Shelby, NC 28152. Any county employee wishing to apply must
submit an Employee Transfer Request along with a completed County Application form to the
Cleveland County Human Resources office by the closing date. Only applicants meeting the
minimum qualifications will be accepted. Selection will be by structured interview. Applicants will
be reviewed to select the best qualified applicants for admission to the interview.
NOTE: All DSS positions are subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs and
client population and are subject to perform work during emergency or disaster situations as
required and may be required to staff shelters overnight.
