You want me as a disciple?
1. Have I responded to Jesus’ invitation to come and see? (John 1:38,39) How am I doing in taking
time to be with Jesus? What am I seeing as I come to Jesus?
2. Do I believe Matthew 4:19 is a call not only for the Apostles, but also for ME to follow Jesus as
one of His disciples? Why or why not? If I am not fishing, am I following?
3. How does what I believe about Matthew 4:19 affect the way I am living my life? (the people I hang
with, the way I spend my money, how I use my time, etc.)
4. What are some of the characteristics of a disciple? John 8:31,31, John 15:5-8, John 13:34,35
5. What questions, concerns, fears do I have about entering into discipleship training?

6. John 13 gives us a snapshot of how Jesus trained the Twelve. Read the entire chapter and make as
many observations as I can about training.
7. Jesus told His disciples, "Follow Me, and I will make you a fisher of men" (Matthew 4:19). In I
Cor. 11:1, Paul exhorted the Corinthians, "Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ". Later, Paul
exhorted Timothy to "set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity
(I Timothy 4:12). What role does modeling play in discipleship training and why?
If I were to invite someone to come and see and they observed my life, what would they see? What
would they learn about knowing and growing in Jesus?
Is God able?
13. Read II Cor. 3:6, Col. 1:28,29, Phil. 2:12,13. What do these passages teach about God’s role in
making disciples?
Am I ready and willing?
14. Matthew 28:19,20 begins with the words, “Therefore go and make disciples” In II Tim. 2:2 Paul
tells Timothy to entrust to reliable men those things which he had heard from Paul. Read II Tim. 1:7-9
and II Tim 2:1-7. Will you go? With whom will you partner?
What is the next step Jesus is asking me to take so I can grow as a disciple and be better equipped to
make disciples?
