illnesses/injuries. These may be distributed through the RESA’s.
New Business
Presentation by Paula Fields, Office of Healthy Schools regarding
Community Schools. She also gave a brief presentation about a program
used in Sevier County Tenn. that utilizes school site-based telemedicine
program for evaluation of students with medical concerns.
Presentation of the status of School Nurses in WV. Nursing shortage
by 2020. This presents unique challenges for retention and recruitment of
BSN school nurses.
 Discussion with Dr. Neal of WVU-CARDIAC Project from 1:00pm2:00pm. He gave an overview of the program origins and on-going
program goals. Susan Haslebacker, Membership Chair of the
WVASN, attended as well. Focus of the discussion was on
interventions available to students/families who are identified as
having risk factors. Also, Dr. Neal reported that screenings do not need
to be done fasting. He will forward to Becky the research findings to
support this change. Parameters for acanthosis nigricans (a possible
marker for insulin resistance) were reviewed by Dr. Neal . If in doubt,
lean toward negative results. So discussion pursued about including
the CARDIAC report as part of the Kid Strong conference this
summer.
 Review and Revisions to WVCOSN By-Laws – Postponed for next
meeting.
 2013 Adolescent Vaccination Requirements. No word yet if there will
be a grace period next school year. Recommend that the adolescent
immunizations be a check-off box on the sports physical form.
WVSSAC has rejected this in the past, Becky King to address this
with them again.
 Review possible suggestions for revisions to Policy 2422.7 and Basic
and Specialized Health Care Procedure Manual – postponed for next
