Specific topics discussed are costing of products and services, decisions analysis, and control and evaluation in organizations. Course Website All class communications, lecture materials, homework solutions, and other relevant information (including announcements or schedule changes) will be handled through Carmen at http://carmen.osu.edu. Class Expectations The university awards three credit hours for this course. Students should expect to spend a minimum of six (6) hours each week in addition to class time on AMIS 3300. The homework assignments have been selected with that time frame in mind. Students will be expected to thoroughly prepare for class by doing the assigned readings and working the assigned practice problems (see the course schedule). Time in class will be spent reinforcing and/or clarifying what students have already tried to learn on an individual or group basis prior to the beginning of each class. While lectures will be utilized to underscore the most important points and to provide additional perspective, participation from students will be expected on a regular basis. Finally, regular class attendance is important. If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to ensure that you understand the material covered that day. Quizzes Six (6) homework quizzes will be given online through the Carmen course website during the semester. Each assignment will consist of 5-7 questions, for a total of 30 points per assignment. Only the best 5 of out the 6 possible scores will be used in determining a student’s final grade. No late submissions will be accepted for any reason. All homework quizzes are to be taken online through the course website. The quizzes are openbook quizzes meaning students may use notes, textbooks and other reference materials to complete the quizzes. Additionally, the quizzes are not timed so students may take as much time as needed to complete each quiz. Quizzes may be submitted early but not later than 11:00 pm on the dates noted in the course schedule. Students may open and close the quizzes in Carmen as many times as needed during the week, but quizzes may only be submitted once. Please do not submit the quiz until you have answered all questions and are ready to turn in your answers for grading. Your quiz grade will not be viewable until after the deadline for the quiz. In other words, if you submit your quiz early you will not see your grade until after 11:00 on the due date. The answers to the quizzes with accompanying explanations on how to solve the problems will be available after the deadline for each quiz. The quiz solutions can be accessed by clicking on ‘content’ on the top navigation bar and then scrolling down to the header labeled ‘quiz solutions’. Exams Three exams will be given throughout the course. The exams are not comprehensive and will cover only the materials in the chapters designated. If you miss an examination for a valid reason (e.g., sickness, death in immediate family) and provide sufficient documentation to support your situation, you will receive an excused absence. The final grade for those students receiving an excused absence will be determined by the method the instructor assigns at the time the absence is judged excused. If you receive an excused absence from the final examination, you will receive an incomplete grade until you complete a make-up exam. If you miss any examination without receiving an excused absence, your score for that examination will be zero. Course Grades Grading is based on the following: Exam #1 280 points Exam #2 280 points Exam #3 290 points Homework Quizzes (5 x 30 points) 150 points Total Possible Points 1,000 points 2
