Human Services Senior Practitioner
Position Number – 2450BR
This is a continuous recruitment for Child Protective Services Assessment workers.
These positions are responsible for:
Completing in-depth assessments of child protective services reports; Assessing risk of harm to children and
determines if children are abused, neglected or dependent; Providing services to children found to be
abused, neglected or dependent; Working with parents and community organizations to provide for the
provision of services to reduce the risk of harm to children; Petitioning the court for removal of children from
the home if at risk of harm and provides information to the court on the circumstances of the child; Searching
and engaging non-custodial parents in services as needed; Maintaining accurate case documentation. Wake
County Child Protective Services are provided from two central sites in Raleigh and four regional centers in
the county.
NOTE - A criminal background check will be conducted.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies
*Interpersonal skills to work with team members who provide other services to families
*Ability to engage families in safety planning to ensure child safety, this is essential given that these
services are involuntary and families often are resistant.
*Critical thinking and problem solving skills are needed to accurately assess child safety
*Ability to de-escalate clients who may direct anger towards the agency or the worker and judgment to
determine when there should be a partnership with law enforcement.
*Oral and written communications skills and the ability to maintain current documentation that accurate
depicts case work with families.
Minimum Requirements – Master's degree in Social Work and one year of experience in social work or
counseling; or equivalent. A valid driver's license and a "safe" driving record required.
Preferred Requirements – Experience in NC Department of Social Services Child Welfare, Current Child
Welfare Pre-Service Training. NC Child Welfare Collaboratives.
Schedule – Base schedule is 8:30 to 5:15 with the ability to flex time and work evenings as needed.
