SELLATAN® WL-W liq. – Innovative Replacement Tanning Agent
Features
SELLATAN® WL-W liq. is an anionic condensation product of aromatic
sulfonic acids.
Eco-Tox profile: As a result of an innovative condensation process, the
product contains extremely low levels of free phenol and free
formaldehyde.
Light & heat fastness: Very good.
Stability to acids and electrolytes: Good.
Astringency: Medium.
Effect on dye shades: Minimal shade weakening.
Handling & storage: Wear goggles and gloves during handling and close
containers tightly afterwards.
Can be stored for about 1 year (from date of production) if kept between
5°C and 35°C. If product becomes frozen, bring into a warm place and stir
before use.
Benefits
SELLATAN® WL-W liq. is noted for its high heat and light fastness and
good covering power. It is therefore, very suitable for the preparation of
white and pale-coloured leathers.
Chrome and chrome-free leathers retanned with SELLATAN® WL-W liq.
have a fine, tight grain and medium fullness and softness.
SELLATAN® WL-W liq. has a balanced dispersing / tanning action and is
highly suitable for application to both chrome and chrome-free articles.
Compared to conventional replacement tanning agents, SELLATAN® WLW liq. has a much lower bleaching effect on dyeings and thereby supports
the production of full and bright shades, at lower dyeing costs.
Application
Retanning:
4 – 10% SELLATAN® WL-W liq. on wet blue and 8 – 15% on wet white
(calculated on shaved weight) is applied in the retanning stage, usually in

combination with other retanning agents, like e.g. SELLATAN RL liq.
Pretanning:
3 – 5% SELLATAN® WL-W liq. (calculated on split weight) is applied at
the end of the wet white process.
