RES FamiliesWe have been trying
a lot of new things
this year and we appreciate all of your
participation and
help making them happen. Whether it
was Craft Night, an Open Gym night, the
new Halloween Spooktacular or the Veterans Day program, we hope you have
enjoyed coming to RES outside of the
regular school day to get to know teachers, staff, PTO officers and other parents
and children. It is a way for all of us to
connect and advocate on behalf of our
kids. There is more to come in the new
year including the Sock Hop coming up
in January! We invite you to participate
and help in the planning as well. Our
next PTO meeting is Tuesday, January
7th at 6:30pm - please join us if you
can! Happy Holidays from your REPTO
officers!
Becky, Amy, Jackie, Chuck,
Nancy and Annie

Emergency
SchoolClosings
The over-riding concern in
making the decision to close
schools is the safety of our students, staff and others in the community. As early as possible, the superintendent makes a decision
to take one of the following actions: open schools on schedule,
delay the opening of schools or cancel school for the day. Information about school closings or delays is shared with the public
in several ways:
•
•
•
SchoolConnects notification calls – parents/guardians receive a mass notification call from the superintendent (for a
districtwide schedule change) or principal (for an individual
school schedule change).
Website - banner notice will be posted at
www.district196.org
TV and Radio - Twin Cities television and WCCO-
AM Radio (830) are notified about a schedule change for
Rosemount - Apple Valley - Eagan Public Schools.
•
Information Line - recorded schedule information is available
by calling 651-423-7777.
If schools are closed all day, the following activities are also canceled:
•
All daytime and after-school Community Education activities
(including School-age Care [SAC], Early Childhood Family Education [ECFE], Early Childhood Special Education [ECSE] and
Adult Basic Education [ABE] programs);
•
Elementary school after-school and evening activities, and
• Middle school after-school and evening activities.
Decisions about whether to hold evening high school and evening
Community Education activities are made by mid-afternoon and
communicated on the district website and information line.
If the opening of school is delayed: all school buses, except midday kindergarten buses and Early Childhood Special Education
(ECSE) buses, operate on a normal but delayed schedule and the
following activities are canceled:
•
Morning and afternoon half-day kindergarten classes;
•
Morning and afternoon early childhood special education
classes (ECSE);
• Morning Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes, and
Morning Community Education activities, including SAC and
ECFE.
Use of e-mail at Rosemount Elementary School:
We value effective communication at our school. The use of e-mail has increased over the last few years. Most of our staff members do not
have their e-mail accounts open during the school day while they are working with students. As stated in our handbook: The staff at RES
have an agreement to reply to e-mails within two school days. If your need to communicate with a staff member is urgent, please call the
school office (651-423-7690) and we will relay your message to the appropriate person.

NOTICE TO PARENTS:
Under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, parents have the
right to ask for certain information about their child’s classroom teachers,
and requires the District to give parents this information in a timely manner if they ask for it. Specifically, parents have the right to ask for the
following information about each of their child’s classroom teachers:
Whether the Department of Education has licensed or qualified the teacher for the grades and subjects he or she teaches.
Whether the Department of Education has decided that the teacher can
teach in a classroom without being licensed or qualified under state regulations because of special circumstances.
The teacher’s college major; whether the teacher has any advanced degrees and, if so, the subject of the degrees.

Making a Difference
Congratulations and thank you
to everyone for a very successful Toys for Tots drive! Mrs.
Slingerland’s, Mrs. Taylor’s and
Mrs. Fette’s classes enjoyed a
pizza party and photos followed
by an exciting trip to Kare11 where they were featured on the 6 p.m. news. (All 69 students
were huddled closely to make the shot!) RES raised
almost $2,000 and well over 1,000 toys were
donated.
We are very proud of our families and look forward
to next year's drive!
