Join us for a free half-day parenting conference. It will be a great opportunity for District
196 parents of children from birth through high school to hear current and relevant parenting information.
Hear keynote speakers, Tom Cody and Paul
Bernabei, and learn how to develop your child's star qualities to gain success. Bernabei and Cody, co-founders of Top 20 Training, have collectively been educators in Twin Cities schools for over 70 years and have conducted hundreds of retreats and seminars for youth and adults including presenting workshops at prior District 196 Parent Education
Conferences. Attend two breakout workshops, choosing from over twenty offerings. Enjoy refreshments while you get information from family-oriented area organizations at the resource fair. CEUs available.
Childcare is available for children ages two years and older for $10 per family. This event is free, but you can register online for the conference and childcare or call 651-423-7920 for more information.

Use of e-mail at Rosemount Elementary School:
We value effective communication at our school. The use of e-mail has increased over the last few years. Most of our staff members do not have their e-mail accounts open during the school day while they are working with students. As stated in our handbook: The staff at RES have an agreement to reply to e-mails within two school days. If your need to communicate with a staff member is urgent, please call the school office (651-423-7690) and we will relay your message to the appropriate person.

District 196 residents and alumni are asked to consider donating a gently used instrument so that a young student may begin band next summer. All instruments are accepted; flutes and clarinets are always a need.
We are participating in the 2013 "Play it
Forward" campaign through Minnesota
Public Radio. Rosemount Elementary is a designated instrument drop off site. You may drop off any gently used band instrument at the main office between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:30 pm.
Cash donations are also accepted. They are used to make needed repairs to the instruments and to purchase supplies for the students who use them. Cash donations may be sent to Valley Middle School, care of Cindy Hanson, 900 Gardenview Drive,
Apple Valley, MN 55124. Checks should be made out to District 196 Valley Middle
School and write “Band For All” in the memo line.
Please pass this information on to neighbors, co-workers, and friends. We are hoping to collect 100 instruments to use for next year's band students! Please contact: Michelle Hoff with any questions.

Hello Parents and Friends of
RES –
What a tremendous fall so far! Thank you to everyone who supported students in their Read-a-Thon efforts – your generosity means that all programs planned for the kids this year will be able to happen!
A couple of things to take note of:
Please VOTE on Tuesday, November 5 th
! Your vote is critical to maintain the level of quality and programs that our kids benefit from. I also encourage you to talk with friends that might have preschool aged children. This is a ten-year levy and will have a big impact on children who are about to enter elementary school.
Please join us at the November 12 th REPTO meeting.
Ms. Piepgras will provide a special presentation on bullying, explaining the district’s policy, as well as providing information on what to watch for, and what to do if you think your child is being affected by this. The REPTO meets in the Media Center (library) at 6:30pm and childcare is provided!
We hope you enjoyed the Spooktacular event – I heard many students comment about how much they loved the haunted maze! A big thanks to all of the volunteers who have helped throughout the Fall. Your involvement makes
RES an excellent place for all of us!
Have a great month –
Becky
Please visit the Scholastic Book Fair on Wednesday and Thursday during conferences. We will be set up in the gym with a wide variety of books – plus the latest
Diary of a Wimpy Kid will be available! Remember to bring along your Reading Rocks voucher to redeem as well.
Books make great gifts! When you shop at the book fair, you are getting great books into the hands of your children and you are earning books for our school.
The proceeds of the book fairs are used to fund the library and classroom libraries, and RES earns 60% of what we sell in free books!
Reading Rocks Around the World was very successful this year in terms of reading and fundraising.
RES students and their families raised $26,408 for all of our RE
PTO-funded school programs.
Students read 305,446 minutes and 62% of our students participated in the read-athon this year--that's over 400 students!
Congratulations to the 11 students who raised $250 or more for the read-a-thon and received a $25 Visa gift card. They are: Casey Gove, Heidi Hanson, Lily
Miga, Sophia Miga, Anisha Mullin, Noah Mullin,
Anna Pamplin, Will Pasch, Brianna Riehle, Landin
Rydberg, and Gabrielle Stovall.
The student who raised the most money for our read
-a-thon was Brianna Riehle, in Mrs. Slingerland's class. She raised $738! The student who read the most minutes was Saif Tariq, in Miss Ringaman's class. He read 6,758 minutes during the read-a-thon.
Wow! They both earned a RES sweatshirt and get to be Principal for half a day.
The four classrooms with 100% participation were:
Mrs. Aubart, Miss Ringaman, Mrs. Sterry and Mrs.
Taylor. They earned a $50 Scholastic book fair voucher so they can expand their classroom libraries.
Congratulations to all of our winners. Students earned 242 t-shirts and 280 Scholastic book fair vouchers for their efforts. That's awesome!
On behalf of the REPTO Board, we thank you for making Reading Rocks a priority and a success!

Please celebrate Veterans Day with a special event at
RES! On Monday, November 11th from 6-8pm, we will be hosting a Veterans Day Celebration in the
RES gymnasium. Please bring your children and any current or past military family members to engage in learning about and celebrating our U.S. Veterans.
Highlights of the event include:
Meet our Veterans - we cordially invite all RES military families to bring your current and past military family members. Military service men and women will receive a special ribbon and we ask you to mingle with the students who want to say "Thank
You!"
Wall of Honor - RES students have submitted pictures and special memories of relatives and family friends who have served or are serving our country.
These special submissions will be highlighted on a
Wall of Honor.
White Table Ceremony - to honor all branches of military men and women who are away from home on duty and for those veterans who lost their lives.
Thank You Letters - students and families can write thank you letters to veterans. Thank you letters will be delivered to the local Veterans Hospital.
Coloring Station - color a patriotic picture for a local veteran to thank them for their service to our country.
Flag Presentation - come meet a local Scout troop who will lead us in a flag ceremony.

REPTO is proud to announce that
RES will be participating in the
Toys For Tots toy drive this year. The students can participate by bringing in an UN-
WRAPPED toy ($5+ value) or a monetary donation. Each dollar will earn 1 point and a toy earns 5 points. The winning team will receive a pizza party and be on the December 6th Kare11 newscast at 6:00pm!
More details to come on how the teams will be formed, so please look for information in your child’s Friday Folder!
Turkey BINGO, an RES tradition, will be held the day before Thanksgiving break. It’s a chance for the kids to play a spirited game of BINGO, hear some fabulous jokes, and gobble down the hall to receive their prizes. Stay tuned for a volunteer opportunity to help hand out prizes!
Wow! We are a school with a lot going on!
When I am out places and meet people, they are telling me that they have heard about all the amazing things that RES and the REPTO are doing, and I am so very proud to be a part of that.
We are a school that people are talking about - from our fundraising without having to sell
“things”, to the work volunteers are putting in to improving our grounds - there is a buzz about
RES in the community!
I want to encourage you to be a part of what people are buzzing about. There are so many events and activities with information in this newsletter, that I invite you to take time to read about them, but most importantly, volunteer to be a part of them! The more you are a part of our school community, the more we are able to give back to our students, and the more we are able to grow!
