VISIT REPORT
OF
Department of Civil Engineering,
VPCOE,Baramati
(te-civil)
(On 28th Feb. 2013)
The department of Civil Engineering, Vidya Pratishthan’s College of
Engineering organized a one day educational visit to, baramati on 28th of February
2013 for T.E Civil Engineering students. Visit was organized as per Pune university
guidelines and recommendations regarding syllabus of T.E Civil Engineering
Visit was organized with the prior permission and guidance of honourable
principal of VPCOE, Baramati. Prof. Dr. S.B.Deosarkar by the initiative and hard
efforts of head of department of Civil Prof.G.N.Narule. & class teacher Prof. D.G.Patil,
along with two non-teaching staff members Mr. H.V.Gaikwad and Mr. Kiran taware
accompany & guide the students during visit. Along with the staff members,
students of T.E Civil specially, pavan rote, gopal kale, harshavardhan udhan,
satishh kale, sagar raskar, ishwar shelar, sandeep kale, takes hard efforts and
initiative under the continuous guidance of Prof.G.N.Narule which makes this visit a
grand success.
 LOCATION-
Abhimanyu corner, MIDC, Vidyanagari, Baramati.
 SITE-
NIRMEETI CONSTRUCTION, G+4 multi-storey building, vidyanagari baramati,
pune.
 DAY & DATE-
Thursday, 28th Feb. 2013
 GUIDE BY-
Prof. G.N.Narule, sir
 OBSERVATION ON SITE-
To observe study the beam, slab reinforcement and their casting on site in
actual practice.
 INTRODUCTION-
As per T.E.CIVIL engineering syllabus consideration in academic year-2013,
of subject structural design-2 .T.E.CIVIL students visited under construction site for
understanding and getting knowledge of placing of steel reinforcement and
detailing of reinforcement on site as per design.
 SLAB-
A slab is a flat two dimensional plane structural member or element having
thickness smaller than other two dimension .it support only transverse load and
transferred edge by bending of longer span (ly) to shorter span (lx) i.e ly/lx <2
 CLASSIFICATION OF SLAB-
1. One way slab
2. Two way slab
 ONE WAY SLAB-
when slab is supported on two opposite parallel its span only inner direction
perpendicular to supporting edge.it is not one dimensional only detected surface
primarily single curved main reinforcement is provided indirection of span to resist
one way bending when ly/lx>2 is called as one way slab.
 TWO WAY SLAB –
A rectangular slab supporting on four edge of subjected to transverse
loading span in both direction perpendicular to support and deflecting from of dish
. it transferred load to supporting transverse reinforcement.
 BENT UP BAR-
A single bent up bar or group of bent up bar are provided crossing crack
more shear is developed near the support at an inclination of 45◦with the support
to shear stresses.
1. design shear reinforcement zone
2. minimum shear reinforcement zone
3. nominal shear reinforcement zone
 BEAM-
beam is horizontal structural carriers transverse loading and transmitting it
to column as an requirement if the steel is provided on tension side as well as
compression zone then it is called as doubly reinforced beam if the steel is provided
an tension side only then same beam called as singly reinforced beam shear
reinforcement in the beam provided in the provided in the form of stirrups bent up
bar and inclined stirrups shear failure of member generally occur due to combined
effect of shear and bending .it characterised by very small deflection and without
any warning code provision more for shear as compare to bending.
 VERTICAL STIRRUPS-
when shear carrying capacity of concrete is less than shear acting on
member than shear reinforcement is necessary in order to prevent diagonal
cracks and its widening so additional shear resist is provided in the form of shear
reinforcement .
 COLUMN-
It is a compression member used to transfer the load to foundation at time of
action of load, when member carrying mainly axial load in vertical it is termed as
column. While if it is inclined or horizontal it is termed as ‘strut’. column may be
classified into two type
1. short column
2. long column
TYPES OF REINFORCEMENT1. MAIN REINFORCEMENTThe main reinforcement or longitudinal reinforcement is structure of short
span placed along reinforcement. The main reinforcement used for the footing
column was 25 mm ɸ of fe500 (UMAT). The spacing between two main column
reinforcement was 10cm on site.
2. TRANSVERSE REINFORCEMENT & LATERAL REINFORCEMENTLateral ties are provided to prevent buckling of main steel avoiding spoiling
on of concrete under load to keep main steel in position. We have seen lateral ties of
8 mm ɸ tied with main reinforcement of column in shape of rectangle.
3. FOOTING –
This is the very important part of the structure which received the load from
column and transmits it to the hard strata. The settlement this can be achieved by
the providing area of footing in such that intensity of soil reaction is same under all
the footing of structure on the site visit, we understand the arrangement of steel
reinforcement for column and footing along their casting.

CONCLUSIONFrom this site visit we understood the arrangement of reinforcement
provided in slab, footing ,column & beam along their casting.
