The Embassy of the United States of America presents its compliments to the
Ministry of Foreign Relations of the Republic of Peru and has the honor to refer to
discussions which have taken place concerning the status of certain United States military
personnel who may serve for a period of less than 90 days at the ground-based radar site
at Yurimaguas, and at other locations as agreed by the Peruvian Air Force.
Enclosed is a text of a model diplomatic note by which the Embassy will transmit
United States passports issued to each such individual, requesting that the Ministry issue
a Peruvian visa appropriate to the purpose therein.
If this procedure is acceptable to the Government of Peru, upon the Ministry’s
affirmative response to this Note, the Embassy will begin to employ this procedure
effective from this date.
The Embassy of the United States of American avails itself of this opportunity to
renew to the Ministry of Foreign Relations the assurances of its highest consideration.

Ministry of Foreign Relations of the Republic of Peru and has the honor to refer to the
Agreement Between the Government of the United States of America and the
Government of the Republic of Peru Concerning the Project for Control of Narcotics, 1
which entered into force on August 25, 1994.
The Embassy wishes to inform the Ministry that in partial discharge of the
responsibilities of the Untied States under Paragraph V.D of the aforesaid Agreement, the
Government of the United States has designated the following United States military
personnel to serve for periods of less than 90 days at the ground-based radar site at
Yurimaguas, and at other locations as agreed by the Peruvian Air Force:

Name, Rank, Branch of Service, Passport Number, Date and Place of Arrival in
Peru, Anticipated Date of Departure)
United States passports issued to each of the aforementioned individuals are
enclosed.
In accordance with Paragraph VI.H.1 of the Agreement, the Embassy requests that
the Government of Peru grant to the aforementioned individuals privileges and
immunities equivalent to those accorded to comparable members of the Administrative
and Technical staff of the Embassy of the United Stated, and to issue a Peruvian visa
appropriate to this purpose in each of the enclosed passports. Privileges relating to

taxation described in Paragraph VI.H.2 of the Agreement do not pertain to the
circumstances of United States military personnel serving short-term assignments of this
nature in Peru.
The Embassy of the United States of America avails itself of this opportunity to

The Ministry of Foreign Relations of Peru presents its compliments to the
Embassy of the United States of America and has the honor to refer to the Embassy’s
demarches regarding the accreditation procedure and privileges to be granted to United
States military personnel who may be assigned to serve at the Yurimaguas station for
periods of less than 90 days, as part of the cooperative effort by both governments to
conduct aerial interdiction operations through the use of radar systems.
In that regard, the Ministry of Foreign Relations wishes to state that the procedure
proposed in the model diplomatic note transmitted to the Embassy under note No. 1008 is
acceptable to the Peruvian Government, which thus consents to the use of this mechanism
for said purpose, effective from this date.
