ISU Won't Cut Ties With Iowa Lottery
May 12, 2007--One month after the University of Iowa suggested to cut ties with
the Iowa Lottery, Iowa State University will not follow suit.
The controversy started when the Iowa Lottery aired a commercial featuring a car
with the Hawkeye logo and a parody of Iowa's fight song.
The chairman of Iowa State's Athletic Faculty Advisory Board says the lottery
is part of state government and should have sponsorship opportunities. However,
the board says Iowa State's athletic department should bar casino ads from
athletic facilities and game programs.
