Associated Press 05-12-07 Iowa State wants to maintain promotional ties with Iowa Lottery Associated Press Iowa State University's athletic faculty advisory board wants the school to maintain promotional ties with the Iowa Lottery. The board also believes that the athletic department should restrict advertising from casinos on broadcasts of Cyclones sporting events. The move comes one month after the University of Iowa's faculty athletic board recommended that its athletic department cut all ties to the Iowa Lottery and other gambling entities. It followed an Iowa Lottery TV commercial which featured a car with the Hawkeye logos and colors. The ad also included a parody of the "Iowa Fight Song." ISU athletic council chairman John Schuh (SH-uh) says the lottery is part of state government. Therefore, it should have sponsorship opportunities. Schuh says that Iowa State's athletic council has recommended that casino advertising be permitted on radio and television broadcasts. The council says that it should not be allowed on signs in athletics facilities or in game programs. Copyright 2007 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
