STORM LAKE, Iowa -- Iowa State University Extension will present a program
titled "Mega Trends in Agriculture'' Dec. 12 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Prairie
Lakes AEA Building in Storm Lake.
The program will look at how the environment is changing and what effect it will
have on corn and soybean production and the changes that the ethanol industry
will have on corn, soybeans and the livestock industry in Iowa.
The high price of oil has made the production of fuel more economical than feed
for corn. The program will discuss what are the unintended consequences of
converting corn into ethanol.
ISU Extension ag engineer Kris Kohl will discuss the changes in the
environment and how they will impact northwest Iowa. ISU farm management
specialist Tom Olsen will discuss the economic implications of the evolving
