By REGISTER STAFF AND NEWS SERVICES Event deals with blacks, student government The 29th annual Big XII Conference on Black Student Government is coming to Iowa State University. About 14,000 black students from college campuses across the country will attend the conference Feb. 23-25 in Ames. The goal of the conference is to enhance the presence of blacks on college campuses and raise awareness of black culture. The event features workshops, black historical displays, a gospel show, a hair and fashion show, a step show and a poetry open mic. Conference speakers will include Jeffrey Johnson, known as "Cousin Jeff" on BET's Rap City; nationally known political activist Angela Davis; and Des Moines school board member and community activist Ako Abdul-Samad.
