Siemens receives long-term service program order in the U.S.

Siemens Energy Inc. has been awarded a service program order from Klamath Energy LLC, owned by Iberdrola Renewables. The service program for the Klamath Energy cogeneration plant in Klamath Falls, Oregon, includes combustion turbine parts and service, generator rewinds and modernization upgrades, an inlet heating system, a combustion dynamic protection system (CDPS) and the innovative SPPA-T3000 control system .

The upgrades are expected to be completed by mid-2010.

The upgrade scope for the two SGT6-5000F combustion turbines at the 500-MW rated, gas-fired

Klamath cogeneration combined cycle plant is intended to increase base load plant power and improve plant base load heat rate. The inlet heating system is designed to allow for more efficient gas turbine operation during colder weather and at lower loads. The contract also includes generator stator rewinds on both combustion turbines and the installation of the innovative SPPA-

T3000 control system. The long-term maintenance program includes a Siemens limited term warranty program, which can also help provide Klamath Energy with better maintenance cost predictability.

“The integration of combustion turbine modernizations in our long-term service programs is an approach that we’ve adopted to enhance the value proposition for our customers,” states Randy

Zwirn, CEO of Siemens Energy’s Service Division. “This order is evidence of the continued need to improve the efficiency and life expectancy of the installed fleet in order to meet the ever-increasing demand for environmentally compatible electricity.”

“The result is a highly flexible resource with 636 MW of capacity that fits perfectly with our growing portfolio of renewable resources,” said Peter van Alderwerelt, senior vice president, Iberdrola

Renewables. “The improved performance this agreement provides helps us assure a continued cost-effective power supply for our customers far into the future.”
