Appendix L. Stream Directions
BOEHMER CREEK (BHMR 1 and 2)
• From the Pikes Peak Ranger District Office, drive west on Highway 24 to 21st Street.
• Turn left and head south on 21st Street for 3.2 miles until it dead-ends at a stop light.
• Turn right and head west 1.2 miles following signs toward Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.
• Turn right on Old Stage Road before the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and drive west 19.5
miles to Forest Service Road 376 (On Old Stage Road, pavement ends at 0.7 miles; road
becomes Forest Service Road 368 at 4.6 miles; road becomes Forest Service Road 370 at
6.9 miles).
• Turn right on Forest Service Road 376 and drive north 3.3 miles to a gate (watershed key
needed to access).
• Drive through the gate 0.7 miles to a stop sign.
• Turn left and drive 0.6 miles to a fork in the road.
• Take the left fork and drive 3.7 miles.
• Turn right onto a service road (very rough road, high-clearance vehicle needed) and
drive 0.5 miles to BHMR1 and BHMR2.
• Park on the right side of the road in a grassy area between BHMR1 and BHMR2, just
before a large boulder.
• BHMR1 and BHMR2 are just down the slope.
Note: Set up instrument in a grassy area near a group of medium size boulders between BHMR1
and BHMR2. Survey both reaches from the same location.
EAST FORK BEAVER CREEK (EBVR1 and 2) – Parking is 1.7 miles past the parking for
BHMR 1 and BHMR2.
• From the Pikes Peak Ranger District Office, drive west on Highway 24 to 21st Street.
• Turn left and head south on 21st Street for 3.2 miles until it dead-ends at a stop light.
• Turn right and head west 1.2 miles following signs toward Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.

• Hike north over a ridge 0.4 miles to EBVR2.
• EBVR1 is 0.1 mile downstream of EBVR2.

Note: Set up instrument on a hill to the southeast of EBVR2 (or to the west of EBVR1). Survey
both reaches from the same location.
GLEN COVE CREEK (GLEN1) – Parking is the same for GLEN1; SCAT1, 2, and 3; and
SKIC1.
• From the entry gate to Pikes Peak Highway, drive south toward the summit 5.7 miles to
Catamount Reservoir Road on the right.
• Drive through the gate (watershed key needed to access) and follow the one-way road
across South Catamount Reservoir dam 1.3 miles to North Catamount Reservoir.
• Turn left and drive through the gate (watershed key needed for access) 1.1 miles to a
sign for South Catamount Creek Trail.
• Turn left and drive 0.2 miles.
• Turn right and drive 0.1 miles and park at the end of the road.
• Hike southwest along South Catamount Creek 0.9 miles following a game trail to the
first overgrown beaver pond. A blue spruce is marked with flagging.
• Hike east 0.1 miles to GLEN1.
Note: Set up instrument on gravel slope 10 feet downstream from XSB, left bank.
NORTH CATAMOUNT CREEK (NCAT 1 and 2)
• From the entry gate to Pikes Peak Highway, drive south toward the summit 5.7 miles to
Catamount Reservoir Road on the right.
• Drive through the gate (watershed key needed to access) and follow the one-way road
across South Catamount Reservoir dam 1.3 miles to North Catamount Reservoir.
• Turn right and drive through the gate (watershed key needed to access) across North
Catamount Reservoir dam 0.3 miles to another road.
• Turn left and drive another 1.6 miles to a four-way intersection with a concrete structure
in the center.
• Turn left (do not take the sharp left to Blue River Trail) and drive 2.2 miles.
• Park on the right side of the road in a grassy area near a sign post with arrows for Ring
the Peak Trail.
• NCAT1 is across the road.
• Drive from NCAT1 parking 0.4 miles through a gate (watershed key needed to access) to
a grassy area on the right. NCAT2 is across the road.
Note: There is a tall pine, an aspen, and a grassy slope just south of the parking for NCAT2. Set
up instrument on this grassy slope.
NORTH FORK CRYSTAL CREEK (NCRY 1 and 2)
• From the entry gate to Pikes Peak Highway, drive south toward the summit 7.5 miles to
a pullout on the left side of the road, just past mile marker 9, and 185CS.
• Hike east down slope 0.5 miles to NCRY2.
• NCRY1 is just downstream of NCRY2.
Note: Set up instrument for NCRY1 just above XSA.

OIL CREEK (OILC1)
• From the traffic light at the City Market in Woodland Park, drive west 6.6 miles on
Highway 24.
• Turn left and drive south 11.8 miles on Highway 67 to a private road on the left, across
the highway from Castle Ridge View Road.
• Drive 0.2 miles on the private road to a gate. (Contact Ed Tezak, property owner, 719429-5121 for access.)
• Drive through the gate 0.7 miles to OILC1 and park on the left side of the road.
Note: Set up instrument for OILC1 on the left side of the road east of XSB.
SOUTH CATAMOUNT CREEK (SCAT 1, 2, and 3) – Parking is the same for GLEN1,
SCAT1, 2, and 3, and SKIC1.
• From the entry gate to Pikes Peak Highway, drive south toward the summit 5.7 miles to
Catamount Reservoir Road on the right.
• Drive through the gate (watershed key needed to access) and follow the one-way road
across South Catamount Reservoir dam 1.3 miles to North Catamount Reservoir.
• Turn left and drive through the gate (watershed key needed for access) 1.1 miles to a
sign for South Catamount Creek Trail.
• Turn left and drive 0.2 miles.
• Turn right and drive 0.1 miles and park at the end of the road.
• Hike southwest along South Catamount Creek 1.2 miles following a game trail to
SCAT3, just past a metal fence on the right.
• SCAT2 is 1 mile downstream of SCAT3 (0.25 miles from the parking area).
• SCAT1 is just downstream of SCAT2 (0.15 miles from the parking area).
Note: Multiple instrument setup locations may be necessary. Set up instrument in the best
location(s) depending on tree growth.
SKI CREEK (SKIC1) – Parking is the same for GLEN1, SCAT1, 2, and 3, and SKIC1.
• From the entry gate to Pikes Peak Highway, drive south toward the summit 5.7 miles to
Catamount Reservoir Road on the right.
• Drive through the gate (watershed key needed to access) and follow the one-way road
across South Catamount Reservoir dam 1.3 miles to North Catamount Reservoir.
• Turn left and drive through the gate (watershed key needed for access) 1.1 miles to a
sign for South Catamount Creek Trail.
• Turn left and drive 0.2 miles.
• Turn right and drive 0.1 miles and park at the end of the road.
• Hike east from parking area to Ski Creek.
• Hike southwest along Ski Creek 0.2 miles following a game trail to SKIC1.
Note: Set up instrument on the left bank near XSC LPin.

SKI CREEK (SKIC2)
• From the entry gate to Pikes Peak Highway, drive south toward the summit 8.6 miles to
a pullout on the right side of the road at 075RG, just past Halfway Picnic Area, and park.
• Hike west down slope 0.2 miles to SKIC2.
Note: Multiple instrument setup locations may be necessary. Set up instrument in the best
location(s) depending on tree growth.
SEVERY CREEK (SVRY 1 and 2)
• From the entry gate to Pikes Peak Highway, drive south toward the summit 12.3 miles to
Elk Park Road. There is a Timberline sign on the right and Elk Park Road is on the left.
• Drive through the Elk Park Road gate 0.1miles to the Severy Creek trailhead on the
right. Park on the left side of the road near rain gauge 076RG.
• Hike 0.5 miles along the Severy Creek Trail.
• Hike southeast down slope after the 2nd large conveyance channel to SVRY2.
• Cross Severy Creek and head downstream to SVRY1.
Note: Set up instrument for SVRY1 on the east side of the stream on a grassy slope. It is
recommended that the survey for SVRY1 be completed first. Multiple instrument setup
locations may be necessary for SVRY2. Set up instrument in the best location(s) depending on
tree growth.
WEST FORK BEAVER CREEK (WBVR 1 and 2)
• From the traffic light at the City Market in Woodland Park, drive west 6.6 miles on
Highway 24.
• Turn left and drive south 13.2 miles on Highway 67.
• Turn left and drive south 0.3 miles on Highway 81 to a gate on the left side of the road at
Gillette Sand and Gravel.
• Drive north from the gate on a private road 1.1 miles just past the Wolf Preserve to a
locked gate at the Timberline Fishing Club (Contact Chip Huffman with Cripple Creek
Public Works Department for access, 970-689-2125).
• Drive through the gate and take the left fork at the Timberline Fishing Club sign. Drive 1
mile to another fork and turn right.
• Drive 0.2 miles to parking for upper Cripple Creek Reservoir.
• Hike along the trail on the west side of the reservoir 0.75 miles to WBVR2.
• WBVR1 is 0.25 miles downstream of WBVR2.
Note: Set up instrument for WBVR1 at the center of the grassy slope along the trail. There are
four very large boulders across the stream at WBVR2. Set up instrument on the largest flat
boulder.
