BIOGRAPHY
John P. Hassett received his BS in Biochemistry from the University
of Maryland-College Park, and MS and PhD in Water Chemistry
from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is currently
Professor in the Chemistry Department at SUNY-College of
Environmental Science and Forestry for over 30 years. He is also
Co-Chair of the Cancer Group of the Hill Collaboration on
Environmental Medicine. He has over 30 years of experience in
teaching and research, with a focus on environmental chemistry. He has investigated organic
contaminants in aquatic systems, including gasoline, pesticides and coal tar, and the chemical and
photochemical interactions of these compounds with natural organic matter. He has also
developed sampling and sensing technologies for hydrophobic organic compounds, some of which
have been used around the world.
