Company Description:
The Lower Mainland District – Emergency Department (LMD-ED) is responsible for emergency
response and planning. Local area emergency coordinators assist in volunteer recruitment and
liaising within their respective areas.
Duties/Responsibilities:
 Assist in the development, implementation and delivery of public education and
information programs specified in the Regional Solid Waste Management Plan
 Effectively communicate the general goals and requirements of the Regional Solid
Waste Management Plan and the associated initiatives
 Communicates with non-government organizations, private solid waste management
and/or recycling companies, and other government agencies
 Prepare and maintain records, statistics, and reports
 Effectively interact with the public to discuss program initiatives
 Research solid waste management initiatives, issues, and services
Requirements/Qualifications:
 Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to display tact and
good judgment
 Must have, or quickly acquire, a good knowledge of the solid waste management field
including recycling, composting, waste stream reduction and related areas
 Ability to prepare technical reports in a clear and concise manner is critical
 Able to adhere to strict deadlines
 Experience with development of promotional materials and public speaking experience
are considered an asset
 Must be able to work independently and within a group environment.
 Must have good computer knowledge of MS Word and Internet
