Students will use the critical analysis process to deconstruct art works and explore connections between art and society. The studio program enables students to explore a range of materials, processes, and techniques that can be applied in their own art production. Students will also make connections between various works of art in personal, contemporary, historical, and cultural contexts. Term Work (70% of the final mark) Unit Title, Big Ideas, and Unit Culminating Tasks Units of Instruction: 1. Studio work: Exploring the use of Figure & ground relationships, colour vibrancy, static & dynamic balance and unity & dis-unity to create 3-4 major artworks in chosen proposed medium 2. Formal Proposal: Design proposal of their intended studio projects throughout the semester Supporting Assignments: ● Information file of creation of ideas ● Introduction cover page ● Areas of investigation ● Preparation drawings and resources for all studio projects Art Appreciation, Theory and Art History: ● Gallery review ● Critiques ● Art History and assignments ● In class test or presentation Culminating Tasks/Exams (30% or the final mark) Course Culminating Task/Exams and Description Culminating 25%: Art show & Portfolio creating a personal portfolio of artwork, an artist statement and presentation of a body of artwork Exam 5%: Exam will contain key concepts explored throughout the semester. This includes historical and contemporary art references, elements & principles of design and an ability to apply a creative analysis to a piece of artwork.
