Power plants can operate profitably over many
years – especially once capital costs are amortized. However, the challenges increase drastically if the supply of spare parts is threatened.
In order to prevent production shutdowns and
to antici-pate the discontinuation of spare parts,
many companies resort to unnecessary
measures – e. g. extensive and cost-intensive
stockpiling.
