June 2013
Principal’s Message:
I would like to take this opportunity to
welcome all students, parents and
staff to Glenbrook Elementary
School. We are in the process of
building an outstanding facility and a
warm and welcoming learning environment for students.
We are scheduled to begin holding
classes on Tuesday, September 3rd,
the first official day of school for the
2013—2014 school year. The exterior brick work has been completed,
the interior walls are being painted
and we are in the process of ordering
classroom furniture and equipment.
It is very exciting and rewarding to be
a part of this building project.
Glenbrook School Organization 2013—2014:
Glenbrook has been assigned a “tentative” school organization for 2013—
2014. We are expecting that our school will open with approximately 340 students. At this time the school has been assigned 14 classroom teachers.
Our “tentative” school organization and “tentative” teacher assignments are as
printed below.
Please remember that this school organization is “tentative” and is based on
340 students attending the school in September 2013. If there is a significant
increase or decrease in our population, we may have to re-organize. This
reorganization would take place during the second week of September 2013.
Parents will be notified if there is to be a school reorganization.
2013—2014 Tentative School Organization
Our Glenbrook Elementary School
website is now up and running, although will be under construction
throughout the summer. I would like
to keep parents informed of school
news and events through this website
rather than through newsletters. The
website address is http://

School Council:
Glenbrook School Schedule for 2013—2014:
School Councils play an important
role in enhancing the learning environment for the students at a school.
This parent group provides input to
the school principal,
organizes
school events, plans pita and pizza
lunches, and raises funds for school
activities and equipment.
Glenbrook E. S. will have a “modified” balanced school day. Students will
have two (2) Nutrition Breaks during the day with three large blocks of instructional (teaching) time before and after these Nutrition Breaks. The school day
will be structured as follows:
Parents interested in being a part of
the Glenbrook School Council are
asked to email the Principal,

Nutrition Break Supervisors Needed at Glenbrook:
Attendance / Safe Arrival:
We will require Nutrition Break Supervisors at our school during our nutrition breaks
to supervise students for 20 minutes in their classrooms while they eat their snacks.
These adults then supervise students on the yard for the remaining 20 minutes of
the break. This is a paid position. We will need regular Nutrition Break Supervisors
and occasional supervisors when a regular supervisor is unable to fulfill his/her duties due to illness. If you are available during school hours (10:30—11:10 and
12:50—1:30) and would be willing to take on these supervision duties, please contact me via email at your earliest convenience (tom.thompson@ugdsb.on.ca).
Parents and guardians are asked to
call the school if their child is going to
be absent or late for school, or if
they are planning to pick their child
up from school.
Our Glenbrook
phone numbers will be advertised in
our September Newsletter and on the
Glenbrook website (https://
www.ugdsb.on.ca/glenbrook/) once
these numbers have been assigned
to the school.
Agendas:
School Photos:
Our school promotes the use of student agendas. This is an important
organizational tool and ensures that
regular communication between
home and school is maintained.
Edge Imaging photographers will be
coming to our school on Thursday,
October 10th to take class and individual student photos. Students will
be bringing home further information
regarding school photos prior to this
event taking place.
Our photo retake day
is
scheduled
for
Tuesday, November
12th, 2013.
Students from Grades 1 to 8 are
asked to purchase an agenda from
the school as staff will be using them
for homework and communication
purposes this year. Agendas cost
$6.00. Please forward this payment
to your child’s teacher.
New Registrations:
Meet The Teacher Night:
We look forward to meeting new parents and students as new families
move into the Shelburne area. We
anticipate that Glenbrook E. S. will be
open during the last week of August
2013, so that new members to the
Glenbrook area can register students
at the school. Parents are asked to
access the school website to receive
up to date informaton about student
registration throughout the summer.
We look forward to an exciting year
and are hoping to see you at our
“Meet the Teacher Night” on Thursday, September 19th, 2013, from
6:00 until 7:30 p.m. This is an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher. If
you would like to arrange a parentteacher interview, please set up an
appointment at a time that is mutually
convenient.
First Day Procedures for Glenbrook Students:
Classroom teacher names for September will be printed on June report cards
for Glenbrook students. Teacher names and classroom numbers will be
posted at the appropriate entranceway at Glenbrook on the first day of school.
Classroom teachers will meet their new students at these entranceways and
will lead students to their new classrooms. Students who have not been assigned to a classroom will meet in the library until class placement occurs.
Parent Volunteers:
The staff at Glenbrook values the work of volunteers and the efforts made by
volunteers to improve student learning. We are hoping to have parents join
our team. We appreciate the many hours that parents and community members provide in order to work with students and assist us with fundraising
events and other initiatives at the school. If you wish to volunteer on a regular
basis, we require parents and guardians to provide a recent Criminal Reference Check (no more than 6 months old), complete a confidentiality statement and an information form. Upon arrival, we ask that all volunteers report
to the office to sign the “Volunteer Sign-in Book,” and also sign out when leaving the school. We look forward to having many volunteers in our school!
We do have a “Safe Arrival Policy.”
When students are absent and we
have not been informed as to the reason, we attempt to contact parents /
guardians to determine the reason for
the absence. If we are unsuccessful
in reaching a parent and / or an
emergency contact, we
then contact the police
to report missing students if we believe a
child could be at risk.
We appreciate your
assistance to ensure that our students are safe.
Medication at School:
If a child must take medication at
school, parents are required to complete a form and submit all medication to the main office where it will be
administered under the supervision of
school personnel. Medication must
be in it’s original labeled container
with the dosage authorized by the
doctor clearly visible. Please inform
the office should you require a Medication Administration form.
Please contact the school if your
child suffers from a condition that
may be life-threatening unless medication is administered immediately.
A plan will be developed with
school staff to best meet the
needs of these students.
Glenbrook Website:
Glenbrook Elementary School has a
website that is “under construction”
but available to students and parents.
