PROPOSAL
Please provide the following:
a) A description of the course. Total: 300 words
b) A detailed explanation of the “knowledge in action” components of the course.
Total: 150 words
What is “Knowledge in Action?” “Knowledge in Action” gives students an
understanding of how academic knowledge and skills are applied and developed through
real world endeavors. This approach is based on “best practices” of experiential learning
and demands that faculty work beyond disciplinary and classroom boundaries. Some
examples of experiential learning include group projects, field research, performances,
public events, public presentations, internships, service learning, community
engagement & activism, entrepreneurial initiatives, travel courses, and more.
c) A detailed explanation of the multidisciplinary scope of the course. In particular,
how does this new course flesh out new cross-disciplinary relationships and how
does this contribute new ideas to your fields. Total: 150 words
What is the Multidisciplinary Component? The multidisciplinary nature of a course
may be interpreted in different ways across disciplines and fields. Navigate courses
should draw insights from other academic disciplines by directly incorporating literatures,
bodies of knowledge, methodologies, and theoretical perspectives from multiple
disciplines. The multidisciplinary scope of a Navigate course must be well defined and
clearly articulated.
d) An explanation of how your course incorporates the Compass Curriculum
component flag or flags identified above. Total: one page per flag.
